Design: LOU The Toilet Seat (Plus kids seat)
Materials: ABS plastic & silicone
Designer: Brett Teper and Rich Williams
"Meet Lou... the most sought after seat in the house.
Why shouldn't we be as discerning about our toilet seat as we are with the other furniture in our homes? LOU suits our decor with his stylishly modern good looks and politely eases closed to prevent alarming slams. He even sports bright x's on his underside reminding those standing to close him, LOU doesn't mind being put down."

"Every detail has been thoughtfully considered. The silicone pull strap and seat indents allow access without any icky contact. The children's lid accessory snaps right in to allow your whole family to enjoy LOU, without having to continually swap the seat on and off.
• Modern design alternative to the standard drab options
• Toilet upgrade without the plumber or the price
• Fits most standard elongated toilets
• Quiet close to prevent slamming
• Kids training seat accessory available
• Gentle reminder to close the seat after use
After the success of our first product (The ModKat Litter Box) we noticed that the design world has long ignored "icky" products. Although we physically interact with these objects on a daily basis, they haven't received the attention that most of the items in our homes have."

I rather keep my toilet seat as it is, noisy and without a reminder. This to me is unnecessary. I also tend to sit on my toilet at times, and having that little handle there seems in the way. And I tend to just kind of " throw" the seat back open. With a handle, it just wouldn't work, because now my hand is "behind" the cover.
And I do feel a little stupid for not quite getting what those orange circles are, and how much different this really is from a regular seat.
Huh??? I don't get it. I'm all for modern, but this seems to overcomplicate something that's already dead simple.
There should be a zero star option. I don't get the orange circle either, not sure how it would "sit" and am pretty sure any little boy wouldn't be able to properly aim in the little hole. Toilets need fewer moving parts - less nooks and crannies to clean. Show me a seat that cleans the toilet, then I'll vote for you.
I really like the idea of a toilet seat that works for adults and small kids, especially potty training, without having to snap big accessories on and off. Even now that my son is fully potty trained, he's still small enough that he could fall in if he doesn't sit just so. However, I find this design very confusing. I don't see any "seat indents" here, and what's so icky about touching a toilet seat lid in your own home? Anyone who has a problem with that needs to learn some basic housekeeping skills or get therapy.
what are the orange things for? i feel like that could get really messy really fast.
I like my toilet seats just as they are. This looks ultra-confusing.
I just don't get it. This is very confusing.
Is the orange circle the lid? This is the goofiest thing I've ever seen. I'd prefer just about any other kind of toilet/toilet seat to this.
I don't like it. As much as I like uniqueness normally, this looks too complicated. That wouldn't be a problem in most cases but I don't want any guests having to come ask for help if they don't understand how it works while they have their trousers in ankle-height.
Having to explain to my 89-year-old granddad how to take a number two shouting through the bathroom door is not my idea of making my guests feel comfortable.
Design-wise, I don't find standard while toilet seat covers offensive so really the benefit would be in the child's seat, IF it's easy to use and clean. Having the child's seat integrated means one less thing to fit into a small bathroom.
A drawing on how it works would have been more helpful than the technical drawing...
I recently had to buy a new toilet seat when I moved into a new apt. It was so hard to choose, they were all awful. I think this is a great idea and it looks intriguing! I love that they didn't conform to the ugly shape of the typical toilet seat, I really love some of the geometric shapes of the euro ones, but can't afford to replace mine. This would be a nice option.
I'm with everyone else about having a seat that is easy to clean without the hassle it is now! too many nooks & crannies in this seat... not pleasing to the eye, and how do you clean under it? I'd like a no star too! It's obvious this person doesn't clean a toilet!
I think this could be interesting... but we need a better explanation of how it works!
Nobody on this design team cleans their own toilet.
That obvious. What a nightmare.
It's ugly, looks uncomfortable, and doesn't look easy to clean at all. The explanation is horrible too. The concept of having a child size toilet seat incorporated in is interesting, but this design just doesn't seem successful to me.
I would give this zero stars if I could.
Uggggh! Change that color from ORANGE to something else!! Makes me think of really old pee--yuck!! What were they thinking!
Wow, it's actually a really cool redesign of a product that has been the same for 30 years. Its refreshing to see a product have a new perspective from what we have been accustom too. It look like the orange top is the kids seat, the regular seat is the plain white, very Japanese inspired. Kudos to bringing a fresh perspective to a boring old product!
I have a nice toilet seat, which is just a normal seat with lid attached. The hinges close slowly, so both seat and lid are "hydraulic" and do not slam, and there's two latches where it attaches to the tank that allow one to pop the whole thing off quite easily to clean it. Makes it a breeze. I think we got it at Home Depot, probably about 6 or 7 years ago. So, these designers are a bit full of themselves if they think no one's addressed these issues before.
lame. make a self cleaning toliet then id be interested.
Is this really necessary? Don't really get it.
Brooklynstudio sez the current toilet design is only 30 years old? I remember sitting on those when I was 10 and that was over 50 years ago. How old is the standard American toilet seat anyway. This toilet seat looks too complicated and fussy, hard to clean and just plain overdone. Keep it simple, Stupe.
I do like the slow close seat feature. But, those are everywhere. I have it on my Toto. Otherwise, Why? I agree with the zero stars.
A good example of people with too much imagination targeting people with too much money.
Zero stars, but as a teacher, everyone gets at least ONE for trying...
G.Sim, I think you're right...
I have a slow-close toilet seat reat toilet seat from Home Depot that cost about $25. It looks and functions the same as any other toilet seat.
My complicated lighting controls allways gets a "how do I turn on the hall lights?" - I do not want operation questions about the toilet!
PS. The indentation and mechanism on the back of the seat look like they may be less sanitary than a flat smooth surface.
