I tend to leave things until the last minute. So, here I am 30 minutes until the official start to Valentine's Day with no plan. Trying to be creative instead of spending money, I have decided to construct a good old fashioned blanket fort. Read on about how to create your own love shack after the jump!
What you'll need:
- Blankets, quilts, and sheets
- Clothespins, twine
- Fort Decor - twinkle lights, flowers, toss pillows
1. Find a nice open space and drape a lightweight sheet to the back of your sofa, side chairs or dining table. The key is to find something with a little height, so you have at least enough room to sit up straight. You can also create a higher roof by taking twine and anchoring it to two different tall points that span your space, like the top of armoire or the top of door.
2. Tie knots, tuck or use clothespins to secure the sheet(s) to the anchor pieces. Once you have a roof, start filling in the sides with pillows and blankets until you have a cozy space.
3. Now, for the fun part. Decorate! String twinkle lights haphazardly to create a happy glow. Toss in comfy pillows and quilts. Suspend handwritten love notes with clothespins or a favorite photo of you and your sweetie.
I can't wait to build my little love shack and I hope I've given you inspiration too! Happy Valentine's Day!

Adorable! Here's to the cute couples making love nests xox
The best part about February 15 is that it's the longest amount of time till Valentine's day rolls around again.
Romance is great and all - I've been married 22 years. But, SHEESH, enough already with the Valentine's day posts.
Even when I was very young this idea would have been just too cute. (I hate cute.) It's perfectly ok to skip Valentine's Day, or to simply wish someone a happy one, you know. Chocolate, flowers, dinner out, champagne, are also all traditional and pretty easy solutions, any of which can be implemented almost until the very last minute, if so desired. (Me -- I'm wearing heart earrings. That's the extent of it this year.)
This is so wonderful! Forget romance, now I want to invite my single girl friends over for a pajama party.
This is an amazing idea. I saw it too late for my V-Day, but it'll work any day of the year!
My husband would probably ask if it was okay if we just slept in our bed instead of in a homemade tent of quilts under the dinning room table.
@SherryBinNH: Some people like cute though. If my SO did this for me, I would be so beyond excited. As much as I love flowers (quite a lot), I don't much care for the rest of what you mentioned. This is unique and so, so awesome!
Then again, I tend to get super excited about little things. (:
