We recently perused our archives to bring you some of our top steampunk tech picks from 2010. To start 2011 off right, we could not help but write about this neat DIY project to "steampunkify" a portable hard drive. Since we think our portable hard drives are a bit too fragile, we like that this project will not only make them look cool, but will also help them be a little bit more hardy.

To create the case, you will need several supplies many of which can be found at your local craft store, these include, balsa wood pieces, brass rivets, and tooling leather. Some of the tools that are required include a drill, Dremel rotary tool, and rivet setter.

While it is a bit of work, we think the end result, if you're a steampunk fan is well worth it. Since we worry about the fragility of our portable hard drive, we also like that this case not only helps the drive look nifty, but also adds a layer of protection.
