In a medium-sized space, a two-seat sofa can supplement living room seating in lieu of a larger sectional. These might also fit into a wall niche, at the foot of a bed as practical accent furniture, or could even be used instead of a banquette in an eat-in kitchen.

The ones with high backs would also pose well as space dividers, or at the foot of a bed in a small studio.
Why is it that I always adore the most expensive pieces?!?
These are awesome, and we are in the need for 60"w seating. So glad you guys shared all these $700+ options.
Totally in love with that first one! Too bad it would not possibly possibly fit in my budget even if it fit perfectly in my tiny living room ;)
We purchased the IKEA Klobo loveseat about a year and a half ago. It has served us well and was a good option for us because we didn't have the money to purchase a couch that would fall in line with our decorating style. It is time to replace it however, as you can not sit comfortably for long than an hour on it (mainly for movie watching, because really, who wants to sit some where for more than an hour anyway?) If it were just me living here, I would keep it, but alas not all decisions are mine ;) It will now be moved to the bedroom or office, if it fits!
One thing I will mention is that if you wear dark blue jeans, it will take a toll on the natural fabric. We do not eat, etc in the living room so it has stayed clean even with a cat. The simples lines lend themselves to a very easy DIY slipcover though!
I'm in love with the first one. It's amazing.
@dinnerparties - we can sit on our couch for HOURS! Then again, I don't find IKEA couches comfortable at all. Why even bother buying an couch that is uncomfortable to sit on?
i think Horchow is very overpriced for the quality of furniture they sell. I do admit they have a lot of unique pieces though...especially their kitchen/dining section.
their bedding prices can be over $1,000...amazing.
my father in law bought us this amazingly pretty louis xiv style settee from an antique store. He paid a lot but i know that it's a piece i will love forever and will be in my house until I die. =)
Keep an eye out on CL, flea markets, or thrift stores; I scored an awesome vintage loveseat on CL for $50! The fabric is in very good condition but not quite my style, so with the $$ saved I can have it reupholstered in the fabric of my choice and still be well under the price points in this selection.
I like my IKEA Klobo, but I would like to see a link for a DIY slipcover. I spilled water on it and that part of the fabric dried darker.
Pi- I didn't say it wasn't comfortable at all, just not for hours at a time. For the half hour I sit on it once a week (Thursday, for The Office!) it serves it's purpose! I think it's just something I don't put a ton of value in. I don't want to sit on a couch for hours! I get it though, I live with someone who does, which is why we decided to replace it. Oddly enough we are going to go with the Karlstad from IKEA! I do find that one to be more comfortable for a long amount of time.
I wanted to make sure to give an honest opinion of it, considering its the only affordable option on the list, and price was a huge factor in why it was purchased in the first place :) I love our little love seat! It looks much better in person too.
Also, I'm from Maine and our Craigslist is really, really bad.
mdmills- There is no link, just follow the lines of the couch. Create a pattern from the the piece of furniture, one of the easiest I have ever done! :)
We scored a great settee that was meant to replace our IKEA ektorp loveseat... But then we loved having the double seating option so much we kept both. Its nice to have to long seats for guests, and then when its just us two we can both stretch out our legs for maximum telivision comfort without having to have some ottoman living in the way all the time!
@dinnerparties - fair enough...though with a small apartment, our couch was an investment because we literally did not have the room to have a ton of seating areas. We have an armchair and a couch, then the other seats are chairs for the dining table. Sitting on the couch to read for a few hours is certainly preferable to sitting on the floor.
I would agree with you there!
I would rather have two chairs. I've never had a gathering where 2 people sat on a loveseat, or 3 people to sit on a 3-seater sofa. Rather than sit with another person properly, the arms are used as seating. That is a no-no in my house. When my current furniture is replaced, I will have only club chairs.
When we had an 8-foot wide living room, we opted for getting two armless, Barcelona-style chairs that could be put together like a sofa for movie watching, but were usually kept in separate rooms. Any armless chairs that don't taper from from to back could probably be used this way. Even a 48-inch settee would have been too wide for us!
oops: "taper from *front* to back"
And also - overstock has many affordable loveseats in this size category.
Our sofa (it's the cb2 movie sofa) is enormous for our living room so I'd really like to switch to a settee. It'd free up layout options, which would let us bring in some chairs.
Only sad thing is the couch is so damn comfortable.
DWR also has quite a few 2-seaters and 62" sofas. We ended up with the 62" Portola in leather over 8 years ago and it still looks and feels new.
I love that most of these pieces would fit well into a traditional decor. Small spaces do not need to be all sleek and clean lined to work well and/or be inviting.
i can think of a couple other options. world market does several small sofas/sectionals:
