If you've never seen one before, a lovie can seem kind of strange. In a nutshell, it's a small blankie with a head on it. Sounds weird, but these beloved transitional objects give babies something fun to touch and cuddle in the crib without the safety concerns of larger plush toys or blankets.

**ALWAYS buy in pairs!**
My daughter has Bunnies by the Bay "Lily Mae" at home and "Skip It" at school. They are super cute and are still looking good, even after being well loved.
My 3 year old son just adores his Angel Dear monkey. And more than 2 years later, it still looks great. It's easy to wash and wears well. I just bought the pink monkey for my infant daughter and hope she loves it as much. And I agree to buy in pairs--you never know when it might get lost, or if nothing else, you'll have a second for when it's in the wash. My son still hasn't figure out that I have two. :)
I have two of the Angel Dear owls. So cute and they wash so well.
Buying two is a good idea. We found a new one at a consignment store that my daughter fell in love with. After a near loss scare we had to track down the original source (Pottery Barn Kids) only to find out they were discontinued. $30 on Ebay later we had a twin, but our daughter had already bonded to discolored gray-ish froggy and had no need for the clean twin. The next child is getting their lovie switched out regularly to avoid this happening again. :)
Amen mlissa! Buying two is very smart. We weren't sure which one my daughter would cling to and of course she chose the one toy that is now discontinued. Of course, I could get one on ebay for a cool $50. ugh. If you do buy two, then switch them out from time to time so they gain the same wear. My nephew refused the clean one right away.
we bought 2 of the angel dear owls. i think they're adorable. my daughter (14 months) completely doesn't care at this point.
We have the owl lovie for my son (10 mos). We actually have 3, given as a gift in a box labeled "a pair and a spare." I rotate them through the wash regularly. He's always so happy to see his owly at bedtime!
we have three of the duck! well a fourth in the closet awaiting to be gifted. i buy mine from little dudes and divas they have the best prices. our son dose not care that two of them are exact and the third has his eyes closed. he also is well aware there is more than one duck. he also sleeps with a curious george toy, which we have three. we wash them regularly and they hold up wonderfuly. i like the three because you never know if he will drop them on a public nasty floor, temp loose one, or get one wet.

We were gifted one of these the day my son was born. I thought it was weird at first, but it was easy and safe to give to him when he was small and now that he is 21 months it is the only thing he has become attached to (other than the binky). We keep saying we need to find another one!
We were given the "Cuskie" http://www.cuski.co.uk/ when my first son was born. Parents are meant to sleep with it for a few days to get their scent on it, then transfer it to the baby's crib.
He's now 2.5 years old and sleeps with it for every nap and every night. It's a blessing and a curse, as we only have one. But it sure comforts him, especially since we gave away his soother to Santa at Christmas. (That worked great. I highly recommend it to parents wanting to break the pacifier habit.) Now his "Horsey" (as he calls it) is his only special sleep aid.
Not sure yet what our 4 month old baby will cotton on to...
Is my daughter weird? She never liked these...but she will take 12 baby dolls, thank you.
Yeah...my kids never liked them either. I've personally always been a "toy purist" - I don't mean all natural materials, but I think teddy bears should be brown; elephants should be gray, Legos should be played with Legos, etc. I try not to enforce my odd toy views on my children, but I have to admit I breathed a sigh of relief when they didn't like these. I mean...a toy head...and a blanket body? No, no, no!!
My 9 month old cousin loves her iggle piggle lovie. She will never, ever let go of it. It's her comfort toy.
My 14 month old is hooked on her "LuLu"... the lamb by Angel Dear. Can't sleep without her. Washes well and dries quickly. And yes, we too have two!
Ducky (angel dear) is a huge comfort to my first. My second (2) on the other hand has always shuned cuddley toys and sleeps with a hockey stick or a pez dispenser...kids.
I'm a new mom and I got one of these at my baby shower. I thought, "what the hell is this??" Thank you for answering my question. I just got it out of the baby basket and gave it to my sleepy baby. Here's hoping he one day transitions from Mama's Warm Booby to Cuddly Lovie.
At what age do babies usually become attached to lovies? I've provided my 10 month old baby with a variety of lovies, soft blankets, etc. but she has yet to show any interest in them at all or "choose" one in particular, even the nap blanket that goes with her every day to daycare.
my little guy became attached to his owlie at around 9 months... and now, at 17 months, he wants to be near him at all times. it's kind of nice to watch him grab his owl for a sniff and snuggle when he is feeling a bit overwhelmed... but nothing beats the mama/owl combo! oh, and we have 5 because i am paranoid we will lose some. i swap them out regularly and rotate them so he can't tell the difference in wear. so far he's snowed...
Bowie outgrew his PBK Lovey at about a year old... or more accurately, replaced him. We gave him a flat cushy elephant toy that he named "Buddy." He is rolling up on 4 and Buddy still goes everywhere.
Starting to look for a lovey for the new baby due in May.
these just look like roadkill to me and i can't get that out of my head. i hope my upcoming little boy doesn't care for them!
My baby has the dinosaur version of the owl, but doesn't care much for it. He LOVES his Aiden & Anais security blanket. Just had to buy a second one after two very long days of cranky baby when his was in the laundry pile!
