It's the 09.09.09 event date for Apple and in preparation for this, iPod prices have been lowered early this morning. It's Only Rock and Roll promised to be filled with interesting tidbits, but for now, it clearly spells lower prices for iPods. We've got the complete lowdown on what happened today...

People just go bonkers for these events and Apple knows how to milk them silly. Nifty and innovative Apple products are usually announced with much fanfare. The biggest speculations are about the elusive MacBook Tablet. Will we see it this year or next year? Since this is an iPod event we expect to see some new features. What makes these events so interesting is that as soon as they are announced, the new products go for sale in the Apple Store.

This morning, the biggest news was the fact that the prices of iPods were lowered across the board. Prices for the iPod Touch start at $199 instead of $229 for the 8GB. The 16GB is selling for $249 (was $299) and the 32GB is at $279 down from $399. The big news is that a 64GB iPod Touch will sell for $399. The iPod Nano starts out at $129 for 8GB and $149 for 16GB. The iPod Classic moves up from 120GB to 160GB and stays at the same price ($249). The biggest change to the iPod line will be video cameras and microphones that will be integrated into all iPod Nanos, which will come with an integrated FM tuner, voice recorder, integrated speaker, and pedometer to sync with Nike+. The iPod Touch creeps even closer to the iPhone in terms of usage. Just like the iPhone 3GS got a boost in performance, the same is true for the 32GB and 64 GB iPod Touch models.

The store is currently down. We expect it to open up right before the announcements are made. What does this mean for you? Are you going to upgrade to a new iPod because of the lower prices? Did you want to have a camera on the iPod Touch? Let us know in the comments.
