You probably already have a fan. You may not have had one until this past week, when you ran out to the nearest hardware store or Target and grabbed whatever was still left on the shelves. But now you've got an incredibly ugly fan sitting in your apartment staring you in the face.
Too bad you didn't plan ahead and order this Ventilux Fan.
Made of polyurethane foam and aluminum, it's available in five cool colors (green, pink, fluorescent orange, silver, and anthracite). It even has cool names for its three speeds (atmosphere, breeze, and storm).
Coolness (no pun intended) doesn't come cheap, though. It's $299 at Generate.

So maybe I got the unhip Target fan, but no way did that Target fan cost $299!!!
I'll just save that extra $150 for cool, new dress, thanks.
But wait -- we bought a reasonably hip fan at Target for something like $40! It looks like a 1940s film noir fan, only much more plastic is involved in its construction. And it has survived at least five summers (so they probably don't stock it any more, nyah nyah!).
Not that the lime one isn't cute... but I'd be nervous about spinning blades with no cover...
Wende, in a couple years your Target fan will be "vintage".
And the blades of the lime fan are plastic, so it *should* hurt less if you get a finger near it. Still not something I'd have around a little one.
Does anyone have one of those tower fans? How well do they work? I'm thinking that with the small footprint, some of those might be more preferable to the standard rotary fan, especially when it comes to storage.
i have a tower fan at my work, (complete with a little remote) and i LOVE it. way better than a regular rotary fan, quieter, smaller, more attractive, and i personally think more powerful. this particlar one even has an evening breeze setting or something where it speeds up and slow down to approximate "real" wind. and the remote is key! (sorry to get off topic!)
I stayed in a guest house with a tower fan in Mexico - it was great. Not breezy, but good air circulation.
That fan with open blades is super cute, but even plastic really would hurt . . .
better for mounting high up, that one
Plan ahead is right! It would take a long time for me to pony up $300 for a fan. But it is a cool fan (no pun intended).
Just make your own. I'm sure you could get the right materials to make a set of blades for a regular box fan. Then just remove the front and back plastic screens and paint the metal box.
$300....what do these people think they do for a living? Design clothes? *natch*
I enjoy living with my Casablanca ceiling fans that I put in my bedroom and the living room. Thye are so quiet and powerful, the sound of the wind moving is louder than the motor sound which I presume is happening but so quietly asI can only infer from life experience that motor should make some noise. I bought them on sale at lampsforless or somesuch for 349 each 2 yrs ago and had my contractor install them, otherwise installation is something like 70-100 each through the vendor. The updraft setting is useful year round although most folks just use it in winter. If you've already got a ceiling light where you want to install it, keep the fixture, in case you need to move and want to take the fan you can put the original back in place.
