- What I Love About My Small Home:
- The L-shaped space. I can view nearly all of my apartment from the front door. After living with family and roommates, it's great to come home, look around, and think, "all mine!"
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Wall-to-wall carpet, beige walls, dated appliances, crooked fixtures...my solution was to fill my apartment with items I love, so when I look around, I only focus what makes me happy.

This is a nice apartment but seems small for 730 ft.
Not in love with the color palette: there is too much bright white with dark. Otherwise a very nice apartment.
15 x 12 is hardly a small bedroom! People with bigger places would kill for a bedroom that big.
I don't understand the last pictures. In the first one there is a white couch but then there is a brown one. The bedroom picture and the last one look like they're taken from a different apartment. Much prefer the first.
This is huge for a one bedroom; I would have liked to see pictures that give a better sense of the layout. Also, why no picture of the kitchen?
Ecandle - The first picture looks like it's from the area she has labeled "Library" on the floor plan (judging by the bookcase) while the second is from the "Media" area judging by the television.
Luisa - I think it's great that you've managed to create so many distinct spaces in a small space! Very nice!
Thanks AT for including my space! Small Cool has been an inspiration to me for years so it's nice to be a part of it. Sorry for the poor quality pictures.
@Elle Urker - I suspect my management company exaggerates the square footage. I went with their estimate rather than try to do any math...
@Usbek de Perse - thanks!
@ecandle96 - The bedroom is way too big for just one person. I put my bed in the center of the room to keep the space from looking like a carpeted cavern without filling it with furniture I'd never use. The white couch in is one corner of the living room, by the door, and the khaki couch is on the other side, by the window.
Why is there furnishings in front of the door? Is that not usable? Kitchen and Bathroom pic would be nice.
@laura110 - I love my kitchen, but it's a galley/cave, couldn't figure out how to photograph it. :-)
@jkpenny - Thanks! That means a lot. I wanted to try for variety.
@LyonStill - That door is to the storage closet, which has another, unlocked door that opens from the hallway (where the milk man used to leave milk back when there were milk men) that pets and small children can crawl through. It's silly, but blocking that door w/ a lightweight table and chair makes me feel safer.
Love your office chair pillow. Is that rug underneath the desk from Urban Outfitters? :)
Even though you're not sold on your carpeted floors it's nice seeing an entry with carpet.
The cutest apt. EVER....
Cool sunflower painting in the dining area! Nice place.
@sundaymorning - Yep, the rug's from Urban Outfitters; I was looking for accessories that would match the pillow. And having carpet was the reason for finally entering the contest; hopefully someone else with WTW can gets ideas, or a self-esteem boost.
@Maria Rios - Aww, thanks. <3
@Bradical - Thank you!
Quite admire your furnishings and art. That and the white works really well. Dark wood is not my first choice, but you seem to have worked it in rather well.
@austere - Thanks! I really like the bright vs. dark.
@onieliad - Now I know what to change for next year's contest. :-)
This is super cute! I caught myself thinking "I wish I could find a space like this..." then I noticed you're in Arlington! Me too! Where abouts? I'd love to find a space like this nearby.
Where did you get those little white frames? I really like them hung all together like that.
I like the photo with the white couch and bits of red. That looks like a Kilppan from Ikea. How do you like the white slipcover? I love the way it looks and am thinking about getting one for my couch. I have a dog and cat and worry about keeping it fresh looking.
Great looking carpet on carpet in your dining area..nice that you can show how the wall to wall can be made 'unseen'..and I love your living room colors..perky!
Thank you all for 50 votes!
@Tanner Tanner - I live on Columbia Pike. It's a nice area and it's 5 minutes to D.C.
@JanJanJan - They are Ikea's Virserum frames, $1.99!
@KKendt - The couch is actually Ikea's Klobo loveseat. I don't think they sell it in America anymore? Sorry I can't help with your slipcover question. But if I were you, I would pick the red slipcover. ;-)
@keeks - Thanks! I tried to make the carpet "disappear" as much as I could. It helped getting rugs with texture... rugs w/o texture seemed to make the carpet stand out more.
Maybe it's me...but why is there furniture in front of the door?? Was it to take a better picture...or to...I don't know...
@wendym1, that door belongs to a storage closet w/ an unlocked opening to the hallway.
Luisa,
Haha, yes, I see you did enter. I used to work in Arlington. I wonder if we have ever crossed paths before! Good luck I'm glad that you entered. You have just been faved
@Otilly - I wouldn't be surprised if we have; the D.C. area feels like a small-town sometimes. I favorite'd your place, too!
I gave a vote for the white couch and coffee table, and the photographs in white frames behind the couch :)
@abellem, thanks! I took those photos myself, my try at DIY.
