After years of walking by and promising myself I would check it out, I finally stepped into Luna Garcia . Behold! Two showrooms stacked high with handcrafted dishes, vases, plates, platters, butter dishes and bowls of every conceivable color. A husband and wife team fill every order on-site, sign and date each piece. They've been making ceramics "with a human touch" at the same Venice location (a charming warehouse from the canal days) since 1985.

On my visit Cindy happily took me into the workshop where my eyes fell upon these deceptively simple white cups. Wine cups, she told me. Wine cups! They were so solid in my hand, so smooth, so brilliantly modern AND classic. I could imagine using them for sorbet on a hot summer evening, for fruit salad, coffee, heck, even Jello (oh, and wine of course). I love them in white... though they too come in every conceivable color.

Check out their website: it includes catalog pages, an "ideas" slide show and an area for special orders.
