I prefer Ty's style. He knows how to work that mid century vibe. Nate on the other hand is too bland and traditional for my tastes. Not to mention at least Ty's collection and line are affordable.

his own west village makeover (also featured on oprah) was pure perfection.

Whomever uses the least amount of MDF in the final design, because really, they (the guys) don't look all that different. And unlike youthful good looks, good design can last much, much longer.

On the cutie-pie factor, Nate gets my vote. Plus, he just seems so calm. Ty, on the other hand, would stress me out cause he's so cranked up all the time. But he did name the new store ADHD, so maybe that explains it.

I find Ty's yelling to be one of the most grating noises ever to come from a television set. He's also not cute.

I find the concept of hiring a designer on the basis of personal "hotness" a bit disturbing. Not sure out of the entire pool of designers either would make my short list, but Nate is at least a real designer, so he would get my vote, if I hadn't logged in too late for yet another survey.

But to go off on a tangent, of the various TV designers I always thought that Vern Yip was consistently the best of the lot.

I ran into Nate last week at Neimans. We were shopping for shoes and he needed a pair for his trip to LA this week.

He's a charming cutie pie but really short....but he did have something stuffed into those jeans he was wearing quite well...in the front. The back was void of anything including a wallet.

Now Ty is cute and I love his energry. I have a weakness for tall men and his hands are perfect.

When you got down to it, for me....they both can get it...anyway they wanted it.

Well we haven't seen Nate showing off his abs on Oprah yet, but Ty seems a bit too commercialized in a somewhat cheezy way. Haven't seen enough of his design work to really judge his talent.

So is Nate's book a success because its a useful, good book or because of the huge Oprah fan base that bought it? In general I do like what I've seen of his work so he got my vote.

Nate is such a talent. His portfolio on his website has some amazingly refined, yet comfortable spaces. I think Nate has a much more NY - east coast - sophisticated style while Ty is more laid-back west coast casual. They both have their place.
And I still get choked-up thinking of Nate recounting his horrific experience in the tsunami disaster.

I'd go for the gay guy any time...Nate.

Um, I really don't think that is seriously what anyone is recommending. We're just having some fun.

But, all things equal (budget, style, etc.) wouldn't *you* pick the designer you thought was cuter?

Personally, I just love that both of these boys are breaking the "mincing queen" stereotype of male interior designers.

I checked out the link for Ty's store in CA and was quite impressed. Much more interesting than the little I've seen on the TV show (which gets on my nerves).

I just want to point out that Ty's personality is very different than what you see on ABC. He just does what the producers want ... and producers want what the Network asks for ... based on what they think viewers want... so blame yourselves!

I've worked on a few HGTV shows, and while I've never worked with Ty, I've worked with photographers and contractors who were involved in Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
They tell me that he's very quiet and kind and nice and normal.

Clearly, ABC picked up on Ty's quirkiness from Trading Spaces (when he'd sit in a dresser drawer as if it were a canoe... and take Paige for a ride with him) and made him amplify that part of his personality for their show.
Just as the show used to be about an Extreme MAKEOVER - and is now just a TEAR IT DOWN AND BUILD SOMETHING WORTHLESS show.

I think they each draw very much from where they live. Nate has more breadth to his talent, sophistication, and an appreciation for industrial that I like. Ty's work is just more limited, although it's a style I like a lot.

Even though Ty is from Atlanta, he has really nailed Cali style, and if I still lived there, I might pick him. But I grew up in Chicago, and live on the East Coast, so it's Nate for me.

I'm not certain Hepburn would raise an eyebrow about this, rahley I'm not rahley.

As for wood, poles, buses, and budgets, actually no. Cute is lunch or a drink. Talent is dinner and a contract. We remember Cavafy the toad because of the beauty of his poetry; the cute boys he wrote about are ultimately faceless and forgettable.
