We've seen some amazing basement renovations before — like Aaron Kristen's duplex apartment in the West Village, pictured above — and over the weekend, The New York Times looks into some new developments around the city that are adding well-designed basement space to add square footage and attract buyers...

The space pictured above is a staged model unit that could really use some color, but the space (lighting and ceiling height) is amazing for a Manhattan basement. Read the story and be inspired by some of these basements: Unearthing Hidden Space.

Great look! Makes me wish I had a basement.
Just had a couple of friends tell me about the flood in their basements (in Chicago). They'll never put fancy stuff down there again...it's just too expensive to replace.
