- What I Love About My Small Home:
- My favorite part is my entry way. I had wanted my apartment to be an oasis of posh comfort in the middle of SF Mission - so I made it so that as soon as you enter my place, the soft lighting and deep blue walls immediately set the tone. It's intimate and serene. I'm very proud of it.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- I moved into the studio from a one bedroom, so I had to get rid of larger pieces. However, being somewhat frugal, I didn't want to just get all new furniture, so I had to make some calls on which pieces were reusable, and which ones needed to be phased out and replaced with more sensibly sized choices. I want to infuse as much of myself into this place as possible without making the place seem cluttered, so I try to stay away as much as I can from generic pieces.

I like how dramatic it is!
I want that peacock screen! It's gorgeous. Any idea where I can get one?
I like the richness of the environment. A nice change from the minimalism that you see in so many of these small apartments. This is cozy, warm and just a bit exotic. Very inviting.
I am sure the soft light is flattering and I love the unique touches in the space--peacock screen!--However, I bet this space shows a lot differently at noon with more light. Cozy as dark is, light is better. . .
Oh actually the apartment is southern facing, so i get light all day long. I actually have to "work" to cram that dramatic lighting into the apartment. :D
(I'd post some "light" pictures, but I dunno if it's against the rules.)
Exotic is good, but I have one pet peeve with this one, and it's the things that look like leftover x-mas decorations, unless of course this photo was taken during the holidays. The sheer red curtains, and the string lights around the bed. They really take away from the otherwise posh look. I would recommend replacing the x-mas lights with LEDs, and then tacking on a sheer panel to separate it from the headboard for a more glowing-panel look. And just get rid of the sheer red polyester curtains until something more suitable is found. It's just too big of a distraction from the gorgeous blue walls, the other nice drapery, and the general effect.
The curtains are actually purple, so it sets nicely with the walls. but it's hard to tell in the photo.. :( My apartment has a bohemian posh feel to it, i don't think the LED Panel really goes with that theme...
@Penny-Money - my friend got the peacock screen on eBay as a 3 paneled screen!
This place is awesome.
Cute place. It seems the photos featured vignettes rather than full rooms, but it does look cozy and well-done.
I'm sorry, this reminds me of a teenager's room from the 1980's, and not in a good way.
I love how much you have done to your tiny space! The hall way is amazing!
I adore almost everything - the fairy-light headboard is cute, the patterns and bold colors and funny touches (love the monkey). 2 things that could be perfected: replace 1) the sheer red curtain and gold ?coins? (tacky, not posh) with a patterned real-cloth curtain, maybe tab-topped; and 2) the South American blanket on the couch (just a different pattern theme from the other patterns and doesn't go with the theme or colors). I think that change could take it from "so close" to "whoa!!". Best of luck!
Lush and refreshing. So different from the usual overdesigned and impersonal spaces.
Too dark for me!
Nice use of graphic prints, and I like that headboard!
