- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love all the color and artwork I have in my apartment. Living in a small space can feel confining, so it was important to me to make my apartment colorful and a true reflection of me and my personality. My favorite piece of artwork is likely the original 'War is Over if you want' poster that I got backstage from a Yoko Ono concert. And my record collection is also an obvious favorite - most of the vinyls are from my parents collection. I also love sleeping in my loft. My friends often compare it to a fort or a tree house, but it's really cozy.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- When you live in a studio apartment, it can feel like everything takes place in one box - you're eating, cooking, working, sleeping and lounging in one small room. It was important for me to separate the space as much as possible without making it seem closed-off and cramped. Adding a kitchen cart helped separate the kitchen from the living room area.

I love the giant pink couch and the wall of record. I wish we could have seen the loft and kitchen though!
I love this. I love all of the color and the art, and the fact that you can tell that someone totally lives here.
Brilliant use of space. As a life-long NYC resident, it's rare to come across a 200 square foot apartment that works. Take note, Ikea. Lysee's got an eye for what's fly!
The pink couch and the wall of records is cool. It would be even better if you could edit/hide a lot of the other stuff.
isn't your apartment more like 325 sf if you include the loft, kitchen and bathroom?
you've done well with such a small space, and you have fantastic light. there's too much "stuff" for my taste, but you if that's what makes you feel at home then kudos for making it all fit. seems like a nice place to come home to... and i fully support small/cozy sleeping areas!
totally rad!
I second comments @bejeweled. Couch looks comfy and inviting, but I can't imagine watching TV with all the visual stimuli already on that wall. Love the art you've got there, just think it would be better somewhere else.
Love this -- looks like a person, not a catalog ad.
So much fun!
@heysandybell -- i second that. 200sq ft doesn't make sense when you consider the loft and add in the kitchen, bathroom and closet.
the apartment was sold to us and listed at 200 square feet. my broker, who has kindly taken a moment to vote for me (thank you jerrie!), can attest to this. thank you for all your positive comments!
i'm sorry to be a stickler, but either your floorplan is wrong or your broker is wrong. it's simple math... the living room at 19 x 10 = 190 sf. the kitchen at 7.6 x 3.5 = 26.6 sf. the loft at 10 x 9 = 90 sf. add them up and you're already over 306 without the bathroom or closets.
still, lovely place and certainly teeny-tiny by all measures.
Love love love it Lysee <3
my broker is never wrong. it's also worth pointing out that you cannot stand in the loft, so i don't know that it would be included in the square footage. either way, it's less than 400 and i assure you, by all means, it qualifies as 'teeny tiny'
Love it!
Co ops are sold on "FLOOR SPACE" not loft space. The actual "FLOOR" square footage is how you pay your monthly fees. I can attest to this as a CO-OP owner in NYC.
I don't think loft space should have to be counted - in some of these the loft space is only 3 feet of reclaimed high ceilings. I really like the pictures shown, but would prefer seeing the loft, bathroom, or balconey over the wall of records.
I'd love to come check out the "squared footage" ANYDAY!!!
I love the space but maybe I would prefer it a little emptier.
Fun space. Odd, it makes me think of the apartment in the old Monkees tv show . . . ???? . . . Anyone else?
Seems like a nice and cozy space, would have liked to see some of the kitchen! How are you displaying your records, are they in sleeves?
this is amazing. If you are ever looking to sell....
far too busy for me personally but a great use of a small space.
Love the bones of this place but the clutter is just too overwhelming.
I'm really sorry to be that person, but please tell me those aren't vintage records stuck to your walls man! I'm itching to come over with my plastic sleeves and anti-static cloth and save those babies....
LOVE the artwork, the color, the abundance of it all.
Very interesting- a visual feast.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! This is the rad-ist apartment ever!
Lovely! And I do enjoy seeing creative loft bedrooms. But, thanks to HEYSANDYBELL and MKONAR I have a question for AT. How is it that lofts aren't included in the square footage of an apartment?
They are a livable (well, sleepable) space so should be counted, yes?
In have a 440 sq. ft. apartment and would love to make my bedroom into a library/office with a loft bed but I don't have the ceiling height. (Yes, I'm jealous!)
When AT posts the square footage of a two-story home, does that include both floors? If so, then lofts should be included in the square footage, shouldn't they?
What do you think?
*I have* not 'in have' :)
I like the meticulous curation of the living room and how the artwork's confrontational presence is balanced by the juxtaposition of the perfectly placed tv and the opposing styles of the adjacent walls in the living room.
Overall, the individuality in the design makes this a sweet space that seems comfortable and habitable, which is pretty rare.
Lastly, I was also looking over the square footage calculations and they're definitely correct; 200 sq ft. It's helpful to redraw the diagram using a protractor to make sure you have the correct angle measurement... normally it wouldn't matter, but in apartments this size, 145sq ft hiding in the corners could add up to a small office.
LOVE your pink couch. Plus the different idea of the record wall vs. all in frames.
Holy Cow! LOVE THIS PLACE! This girl has got STYLE!
I like it! Could you tell me where you got that coffee table? Thanks.
I actually got it at Housing Works - a second hand store in the city. It was 40 dollars cash and carry!
Love that!
Maximilism for the win!
You have a print hanging in your place that says "War is Over"; however, I think it just broke out in that apartment.
great space =)
