Name: Madelyn
Location: Paris, France
We bought an apartment in Paris on the 7th floor in a building dating from the 1800's. Original features had been damaged or lost — oak parquet, moldings, original fireplace. But it had fabulous views over Paris including the Eiffel Tower and Invalides Dome. The location was perfect, in the village-like atmosphere of the 7th, near landmarks, the Seine river, and the famous rue Cler open market street. The apartment was a mess — bad repairs, old plumbing and wiring, but we loved the light and space.
We completely gutted it. We overcame real problems to work with the space to create a new kitchen, moved the old bathroom, created closets but retained the beautiful space and light. Discovered problems as we scraped away the old paint — it required us to remove the plaster back to the original brickwork and start all over. We are delighted with the result!
Thanks, Madelyn!

WOW!!!
I love how much they've done without having unnecessary furniture just to fill the space, the size of their pieces relative to the size of the rooms is just lovely!
So truly lovely.
If ever you need someone to stay in your apartment for you I'd be happy to help you.
purdy!
oh how beautiful...
I would love that bedroom. Can just imagine picking out clothes from the wardrobe and spreading them across the bed to decide what to wear. Dreamy.
I love how you worked with all the angles, making them part of the design. Really lovely.
So beautifully Parisian!
I hate you but I want to be your BFF.
Kidding. Love it all, deeply jealous.
That is my dream bedroom. Mine is no smaller, but it has zero charm compared to this one. Must go home and figure out why...
Lovely!!
Do you rent it out by any chance??
Spot on Paris Apt. The Louis Phillipe mirrors are ubiquitous in Paris but so hard to come by (reasonably $) here! I've been analyzing why I love Paris style and you've captured the sophisticated charm.
There's a rumor in Paris, about rents getting higher and higher because of rich Americans buying or renting appartment we need but can't afford. Here's one exemple; but I'm so amazed to see what you did with it, I don't care about that rumor !!
After living for five years in downtown Paris, I still don't understand why it's supposed to be such a great romantic city to live in (traffic jams, noises, bad plumbing, hugh rent and around an hour to get to work isn't romantic to me !), but I hope you have a lot of Parisian friends who'll come visit. Please, show them how lovely and tasty a home can be. I'm ashamed to see that the most beautiful appartment I know of in Paris is owned by an American. We surely need to take some styling lessons...
Paris, like San Francisco, has its own special energy and atmosphere that somehow outlives nearly all the usual memories of the horrible things about city life.
Your apartment beautifully captures the spirit of the city and regarless of anyone's nationality, be proud and enjoy entertaining!
This apartment is to die for. The bedroom is just stunning!
wow how lovely! what did you use on the floors?
If I'm gonna climb 7 flights to get home -- or to a friends home -- this is what I want waiting for me!
A gem.
HUGE QUESTION: how do you clean sisal carpets? I've had sisal rugs in the past and I find it extremely difficult to get particles out- even with a vacuum.
This is proof that sometimes SIMPLE can be BREATHTAKING.
I especially love the dresser and turquoise lamp shade.
What a beautiful space! I love everything about it.
I love how this bedroom reflects a whimsical and antique-y decor :)

adorable!!
Absolutely fabulous!!
Madelyn, my hero - this is a masterpiece. I am in an apartment and researching to build a darling fireplace (though mine will be faux) of my own. I am so happy for you that you have one... or - dang! - two!
Also, I love that you've layered cream over cream and white over white and all the layers just lend themselves to a delectable place of serenity.
i know this will sounds very mean-spirited but i think it's oppressively girly... in a kind of "shabby chic" way. it doesn't look really antique and it looks all sort of overly upholstered.
i can't see the exterior of the Parisian building, but assuming it's one of the classic Haussmanian buildings we associate with Paris, the 19th c. architectural details will be sufficiently beautiful offset by some austerity. All the doo-dads and tchotchkes cover it all up.
This could be Indianapolis or Des Moines or NYC or Shanghai. It looks like faux-Baroque a la shabby chic.
OMG when can I move in. I just love this space! Wish you could help me revamp my space. Thanks for sharing!
