The spring weather has us dreaming about bikes again. We treated ourselves to a bike trailer recently but we're still dreaming about the Nihola Tricycle we wrote about almost two years ago! Now a U.S. company (based in Utah) has developed the Madsen Precious Cargo line of bikes.
We love the retro-styling of the bicycle itself and the roomy bucket is great for transporting the kids around, lugging groceries and other large items. The Madsen bikes have the cargo at the back of the bike, instead of the front like the European Nihola or the Bakfiets. A quick check on their website provides the following explanation: the bucket on the front, like the box of the European design, creates an awkward center of gravity. So we stretched the chassis and put the bucket on the back. With the natural feel and balance of the rear bucket, you can ride with confidence knowing your load is secure and your cargo is protected. We still prefer the kids upfront where we could see them, but there is something to be said for a smooth and secure ride for everyone. Read more about Madsen bikes at their site.
