I try to get most of my reads online now, but there are still a few magazines I pick up regularly and keep in little stacks to re-read when I need some inspiration. I fell in love with this magazine stool by NJU Studio the second I saw it, but then I found this DIY version. Now I'm torn.

There's a lot to love about both ideas, not the least of which is the price. I think I might have to make my own in between version. What do you think?

Shaw's Original Fir...
I'm crazy about the NJU Studio version...not so much with the DIY version. I think it would be great to create a more sophisticated DIY version with some sort of a base, vintage belts, and a pillow top like the NJU Studio version.
PS) I'd love to see pictures when you make your DIY version!
I agree with neefall. seems like a higher end take on the DIY might be the best road. you'll get the cost benefits but also be able to customize for your space.
yeah, the diy version looks slapdash (at best). But! With a little bit of effort and maybe a thrifted footstool or something (and maybe some leather belts?), I think you could DIY a MUCH classier version.
Deja vu. The only thing I dislike about Apartment Therapy are the constantly recycled posts.
I'm so making an upscaled version of this. Should the spines of the magazines all face one way, alternate, or random? I think my wine spectator mags might be the perfect choice. Note that this also could allow one to revisit old magazines very easily!
$150!!!?
I just can't see this working well (either one) for a long period of time. The mags will shift no matter what, it won't be stable.
I want to make a stool out of used jeans. My idea is to use a belt like was used in the pictures.
Neither of those look very comfortable.
