How To: Create a Vintage Suitcase Table

Seeing AT:Chicago's post yesterday about vintage suitcases on Etsy reminded us of the tables we recently came across at an Anthropologie in New York. With the addition of a set of table legs, the suitcases became cool pieces of furniture. (Bonus: They were on sale when we stopped into the store.) It's also easy enough to make one yourself.

The table leg pictured here is from Ace Hardware, and is available in various heights (ranging in price from $4.50-12.50 each). We would paint the legs to match the suitcase, like in the Anthropologie picture. To avoid wobbly legs, it may be best to add a couple of pieces of wood to the inside bottom of the suitcase. That way, your legs have something sturdy to screw into.

Of course, you can go totally vintage with this idea and use the legs off of an old table that you have lying around or find at the flea market.

Most of the tables at Anthropologie incorporated rectangular suitcases, but our favorite was actually a small round one — the perfect side table, we thought.
