How much does it cost to convert a kitchen and dining room into a kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and music room? Let's explore the figures...

From Maggie and Ed:

We ended up spending A LOT more on the refrigerator than we anticipated. That one appliance alone accounted for more than 20% of our entire project overage. Who would have thought the sound of the fridge could be such an issue?! We also really wanted a counter-depth style, so we got stuck splurging when we hadn't planned on it.

The contractor's adds were the biggest increase to the cost, but all those items either seemed like the right decision or were just unavoidable.
Overall it feels like the project came out pretty pricey, but when we look at it on a cost per square foot basis, $100/SF seems like an appropriate amount for a complete gut-renovation in which we didn't have to settle for finishes or appliances we didn't love, we finished on time, and our house gained a whole new room as well as joined the 21st century.
