Name: Maggie (of Maggie Rose) & Ryan
Location: Upper Queen Anne — Seattle, Washington
Our apartment is the upper level of a 1907 single family home that was converted into two units in the '70s. We love the existing original features like the large windows and pocket doors leading to the living room, as well as painted hardwood floors throughout most of the rooms.
As our first home together, decorating was a challenge in merging two apartments of furniture cohesively and on a tight budget. We settled on a soothing neutral style that fits our personalities well - I used lots of natural textures, blues and greens, especially in the living room, and we chose muted and calming paint colors together. We love to switch art around to change the feel of a room; right now we're displaying everything from concert posters to custom watercolors. The office is where I got to have a little fun, bringing in warm accents and more color. As renters, we've been lucky to be able to paint, but are limited as far as any other structural changes go. For the most part, we're working with what we have and making affordable updates as we're able.
Thanks, Maggie & Ryan!

Sprout Side Table
beautiful, calm colors and vibe. Can you tell me what you used?
I find it adorable!!! It is always a challenge to unite two different styles but you guys definitely succeeded! I love it! I'm going to show it to my boyfriend tonight! LOVELY! I wanted to know where is the computer table from and the "for like ever" poster that I need to have it!! Thanks! :)
Love that linen paint color.
j.martin: I think you're referring to paint colors? Office is Valspar's Winter Calm, dining room (with shelves and bar) is Benjamin Moore's Mocha Cream, living room I'm not sure - paint was up when we moved in, and bedroom is Olympic White Wisp (I think).
tmilan: My desk is the Parson's table from West Elm. You can find the For Like Ever poster at Village (http://www.vllg.com/products/For_Like_Ever_poster#panel=about-usage) which comes in and out of print.
More sources and diy projects can be seen on my blog: www.maggieroseonline.com. Thank you!

I love this! I think I saw the same space on Desire to Inspire, and was equally in love :)
If you hadn't mentioned that it was two households being blended together, I would never have known. Really like the relaxed vibe - am envious of all of the light and big windows! Further info about the posters over the sofa would be great. Thanks!
Very nice!
i like the idea of using ikea's expedit 1x4 shelf as a bench. it's a great piece of furniture to have (as far as ikea standards go) because it's so versatile! maybe in your next home it might be better suited as a tall bookshelf, or a tv stand, the uses are endless! haha
love the clean-lines glass table. makes your space feel big even though much of your floorspace is taken up by a coffee table.
citipearl: Thank you! The posters over the sofa are both screenprinted concert posters bought at the concerts. The one on the right is Death Cab for Cutie, I think 2004. The one on the left is Belle and Sebastian's 2006 tour (that one I know for sure, as it was our first concert together!). Hope that helps!
I absolutely love the paint color in the office, so calm and soothing.
I will quite literally be doing the exact same thing in 2 months: merging my stuff with my boyfriend's in a new, rented space, while on a tiny budget. Any advice for how to successfully and peacefully combine spaces? I'm an interior design enthusiast, while he literally has no interest in any type of design and I think it will be an uphill battle trying to convince him to go along with my plans.....
I love the use of expedit as a bench. Outstanding apartment, color, decor, even though I think the boyfriend definitely got overridden on most, if not all of the design choices....
pgm86: Going slow (no rash design decisions) and not doing anything the other person hates is a good basic plan. Ryan cares most than most of his guy friends, but he's still more easygoing than I am... hmm, could be a good blog post!
eise0100: It does feel a bit feminine, doesn't it? Don't worry - he has total veto power and uses it. Funny enough, most of the large furniture was his (and his half of the office is much more manly, I promise!)
It's clean and crisp and inviting. Just the right balance in each space, and nothings speaks good taste than Maker's Mark sitting front and center on your beautiful bar. Job well done!
I like it! It feels very relaxing and peaceful.
Just out of curiosity, where's the rug in your living room from?
where is that bar cart from - i love it :)
emmelemm: The rug is by Surya (called the Continental). We got a big of a deal on it ordering to-the-trade but it's also available on RugsUSA.
audreymarie: The bar cart is vintage! I've seen several similar ones and at least one identical in my thrifting trips, so keep an eye out - it was under $50 (after gentle negotiating).
These pics left me wanting more...how about a full house tour? It looks great so far...
I second elbaramos suggestion: full house tour please ! I'm loving what I see (perfect use of color !) and I want more !
How on Earth did you hide the cords to your tech gear so well?! Magic!
Ooh, thanks for the info about the rug. I've actually looked at that rug before on-line; that's why it seemed familiar and like something I would like.
How's the jute for softness?
Lychee: We try to keep most things wireless (printing, etc) but I must admit there is some cord mess here and there! Can't escape it totally!
emmelemm: It's a great rug - we've thought about getting a second one for the bedroom. It's nubby instead of scratchy. Softness was my bf's MAIN concern with the rug so we tested out a bunch (barefoot) and this was the winner! I'd recommend it, but we use the hose attachment to vacuum - pushing has damaged the deep pile. Something to consider.
House tour, please! Beautiful space.
Cutie Cute Cute!
Very cute place. Clean, but so full of charm! I love the expedit window seating. I've been looking for something just like it. Are you finding it sturdy enough for people to actually sit on it regularly?
Where did you buy the coffee table? Love it!
Everything about your home is just right! Definitely calming but with the perfect furnishings to give it character. It would be great to see your place on a House Tour.
LizU - not too much traffic on the window seat yet. I don't think it would be a permanent solution - but as renters, we don't need it to last more than the next few years, which I think it will (most people just sit on our sofa or chair).
Liz Trinidad - the coffee table is from CB2 (a few years ago, but they may still have it).
I'm pretty sure we're style siblings separated at birth; I have the same desk, same slanted espresso-finish bookshelf, and am also using expedit as a storage bench. Oh, and I live in a Victorian home that was also converted in the 70's. What a trip!!
That said, I like your interpretation! ;) Light, bright clean and yet homey, I'd love to come over! That color on the office wall is LOVELY, peaceful but not boring. Really, really like your space.
Love the rug...is the color "natural" I assume?
The bedroom is fantastic! In the picture with the cat on the bed, would you mind sharing what kind or where you purchased the drapes? They are just what I've been looking for.
Meredith - Yep!
NicoleinCO: They are from Pottery Barn. Not their lightest cotton drapes, the medium weight (can't remember the name off the top of my head). Good luck!
Maggie
where are the curtains in the office from??
