Okay, maybe we didn't quite come up with 101 uses, but we thought of a lot and know you'll think of more too. 20 of Junzo Terada's animal creations can be brought to life by you and your children by punching them out and fitting the slots together. Seriously simple and we're seriously jazzed. Read on for our ideas.

Junzo Terada is new to us, but we love his aesthetic both in the playful shapes and forms of these animals as well as their somewhat vintage vibe and use of pretty and colorful patterns. (Think the Japanese Shinzi Katoh.) The animals themselves are stiff and sturdy and made from heavy chip board. They are housed flat in an attractive box and, one of the neatest features, each comes with an envelope with instructions for how to put it together. So if you can bear to part with them they can easily be mailed off to friends young, old and in between. Here are some of the animals making up the menagerie: bear, pig, cat, chicken, elephant, octopus, monkey, kangaroo, penguin, seal, hedgehog, frog, otter and more.

Magical Menagerie (2009, $24.95) is a product of the forward thinking Chronicle Books and they've also collaborated with Terada on a journal and postcard set with sticky notes and stationery coming soon.

Okay, here are the uses we dreamed up - what else can you think of?

  • Play
  • Display/decor
  • Christmas ornaments
  • Christmas Advent calendar (put one together every day)
  • Baby shower decor
  • Birthday party decor
  • Party activity and take-home favor
  • To accompany a party invitation
  • DIY baby mobile
  • In place of a bow on a gift
  • Table name card
  • Valentine's cards
  • Strung together into a garland

(For some of these uses you may want to secure them with tape or glue)
