While in Paris, we scouted out the home stores and found ourselves twice in Habitat - the affordable Terence Conran outfit that we no longer have here. The Flap Clock (75) was one of many neat things we saw (and the only one we bought).
Designed like something you would see in a train station or a socialist government office, Flap has a lovely retro feel and keeps track of all the dates and time you need. On Saturdays and Sundays the day plates are green and red, the am/pm switches at noon every day and if you buy it in Paris the names are all in French. MGR

Flaunting your trip is one thing. But boasting about TWO trips to Habitat, and waving your cool souvenirs in our faces is just CRUEL. ;)
home accessories tease
;^ )
Like the clock (I can NEVER remember what day it is) but not the price. Too dear for the likes of me.
OK - I looked at the site and see that not only do they have the "Flap" clock but also a "Flip" clock. The first thing my warped mind thinks of is that if I bought both and hung them in a room they would somehow cancel each other out and vanish.
Eeek, I think I have had way too much coffee today (which is tricky to do in the Pac NW).
I think the proper term here is "clock tease."
Patrick (the other one), how did I just know you would post that? I first wrote "flap clock tease" but got snickering so much I nearly had cafe americano coming out my nose. I simmered down and censored myself. ;^ )
That's why I'm here. :)
the sweet sound of the flap (used to love falling asleep hearing my clock radio flap each new minute, almost as sweet as the sound of the Sharpie lid click, as Unbeige recently said), maybe incentive to be quiet in bed by midnite?
or date with a flapper (do the charleston at midnight...i know. bad, yes...i'm no p(too)...
;-)
I remember that sweet sound, too. And I remember when it was cutting edge.
I also remember what a pain in the a$$ it was when you were trying to set the time, and missed your number, since ours wouldn't let you go backwards!
um, what exactly is the "sweet sound of the flap"? is it the numbers changing? i've never heard of "flap clocks" & have no idea what all you guys are talking about; am i the only one?
Sooj - I guess it depends how old you are.
Terence Conran's group sold Habitat to IKEA in the early 90s.
As I remember the flip-flap sound of the pre-digital clocks of my youth I am feeling very oooold. For those who miss that flip-flap sound and want "art" to boot, there is the Yoshitomo Nara Clock (www.sweatyfrog.com/clock.html).
I've toyed with doing an assemblage/altered art thing like this but the materials I have would weigh down the "flaps" and I don't think they'd flip right then. Hmm... I am putting way too much thought into flipping and flapping - must get back to work now.
Does anyone know where to buy this clock now? Habitat doesn't seem to have it online and i've searched google to no avail...
Where can I buy the clock now ? I ned it desperately
ebay currently at £80
I bought one of these from Habitat (on high street) yesterday. Looks great in my kitchen. Don't like to think about the price though.
