British Album Covers Stamps

This is the time when we start readying holiday cards and postage, becoming particularly picky about which stamps to use with specific cards for specific personalities. Choosing the right stamp for the right card is a must when it comes to stationery. So we were in utter awe when we saw these postage stamps those lucky blokes and birds over the pond will soon be able to use upon their envelopes, printed with the legendary album designs from the likes of New Order, Blur, Bowie, the Stones…uh…and…uh…Coldplay?

Apartment Size Sectional Like This One?
Good Questions

120409atlagoodquest01.jpgQ: I saw this sectional in one of the Apartment Therapy house tours recently and the owner was kind enough to comment that it was a Jasper sectional from Room and Board.  Unfortunately they no longer sell the corner unit just chaises. My apartment is small and has a wonky configuration so I can't get any sectional with a chaise…

The $8,000 Sewing Machine

Peter over at Unplggd got a chance to give the Bentley of sewing machines a thorough test. The Janome Memory Craft 11000 Special Edition is a high-tech crafter's dream machine, complete with 640 x 480 resolution display and PC data transfer options. This is surely not your grandmother's sewing machine.

The Eastside Eco Tour: Free and Green Architecture Tour

We've promoted and attended a few architectural tours in our time, as we're totally decor-minded Nosey Neds who love getting to take a peek and walk inside other people's homes given the opportunity. But we're especially excited about attending the The Eastside Eco Tour because of it's green architecture focus in and around our own zipcode…and because it's FREE!

Repair Source for Damaged Vinyl Chair?
Good Questions

Q: I have a vintage vinyl Herman Miller chair that got very beat up in a move. I have no clue its true value so not sure if it is worth the repair cost. I was wondering if your readers could help me out. Also any suggestions on places that could repair (on the cheap) preferred.

Wallpaper Company Shows Off Vinyl Lover's Set-up

120309make-like-a-wallpaper-sz-120309.jpgOoh! We are liking the lo-fi audio set-up wallpaper company, makelike, has put together on their site. Love the low credenza filled with records. And that speaker is gorgeous -- the white casing, the dark wood, and the coral ring on the cone, pure beauty. Does anyone know who makes it?

Jaime and Carleton's Backyard Palm Springs
House Tour

120209breakfastnook2.jpgName: Jaime, Carleton, and Scarlet Curtis
Location: Fairfax District in Los Angeles, CA
Size: 1,700 square feet
Years lived in: Just a few months

We love hearing from readers with updates about renovations or a move to a new home. Earlier this year, Jaime gave us a peek of her previous home in Silver Lake, right before making a move to a new home in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. She's finally settled into her new abode, recreating a little bit of Palm Springs chic in both the interior and backyard areas of her rental, a space they describe as a "little modern, a little cozy".

The Cats' House

Feline lovers, get ready for some pie-in-the-sky dreams come true: The Cats’ House designed by Japanese architecture firm Fauna+DeSIGN is dizzying in the amount of playful, yet tastefully designed, details created to amuse 16 very fortunate felines. Rounded corners throughout, bookcase steps, tunnels, skylights, ceiling catwalks and a floor to ceiling scratching post make this possibly the coolest pet-centric home we've ever seen.

What to Paint My First Condo?
Good Questions

Q: I'm about to close on my first condo and since now I can actually paint for the first time ever, I was thinking of painting an accent wall. The new place is exactly the same as my current unit (pictured here) except the floors will be darker, almost cherry, and I'll be getting my grandmother's fabulous olive green 1950s coffee table.

The Small Space Renter's Home Theater Upgrade Plan

Being a renter with a modest income and even more modest space to work with means compromises will be made when putting together a decent home theater setup. We've been pretty satisfied with our current setup, but we're looking forward to 2010 as the year we move toward a proper 1080p setup with true surround sound, and here's our plan…

Veniceworks' 500 Square Foot Studio
House Call

Name: Veniceworks Studio
Location: Venice, CA
Size: 500 square feet

Architect Richard Aldriedge wrote in to share his small space studio space which is now rented as an apartment. The Venice studio is just 500 sq. ft. with Douglas fir flooring, offering an inviting sleeping alcove and a sizable skylight which keeps the modest space feeling expansive despite the real footprint. The dual glazed windows on the alley-side are translucent for privacy from a 3-story apartment across the alley and tall french doors give a balcony view out to the neighborhood.

Modern House Numbers Add Curb Appeal

Architects Rick and Brandy McLain of Tuscon, Arizona started Modern House Numbers over a year ago while renovating their home, after facing the challenge of finding affordable modern home address numbers for the front of homes, mailboxes and front curb. They decided to design their own and soon afterwards others were asking about their modern address solution.

How to Organize Your Holiday Shopping With Apps

This holiday season we've noticed that we have been using our iPhone's camera to snap photos of gift ideas and of purchases we've already made in an attempt to get organized. While perusing GeekSugar this morning, we were inspired to use Evernote to take this one step further, alongside consider some other apps to make the holidays easier.

ZNAK Tears Off Customizable Wallpaper

Back in the day in college, we used to spend countless hours with frisket, a X-acto blade and steely focus while stenciling out shapes for airbrushing projects. Znak modular wallpaper reminds us a lot of those days, but sort of in reverse and with a whole lot less effort. ZNAK “Tears off” wallpaper is applied only after you've painted underneath, then the colour is revealed by peeling away perforated pieces in a design of your choosing.
