Dollhouses for Design-savvy Grown-ups?

12.3.9 dollhouse 1.jpgWe always loved dollhouses--specifically the tiny furniture that you could painstakingly select for each room! Check out these mini modern pods and the hip furniture that can go in them!

Roundup: Holiday Garlands

We recently blogged about a beautiful crocheted garland, and have since seen all manner of sweet, simple, gorgeous garlands on some of our favorite blogs, and we have rounded up some of our favorites.

Etsy Finds: Charts, Maps and Graphs

Etsy finds make some of the best gifts, in our opinion. Check out some of our favorite finds for the person with a penchant for all things chart, map, and graph related!

Roundup: Toys as Decor

We started a small collection of tiny, plastic figurines--the likes of old army men and the such--that we keep on our desk positioned in constant states of action. We even traded with the son of a friend to get a new addition to our collection. As big fans of small toys as decor, here are some of our favorite images of toys used as decoration!

Hatch Show Prints

11.30.09 hatch 2.jpgThese limited edition prints combine three of our favorite things: letterpress, food, and San Francisco. Created by a butcher and chef turned designer, we love the look of these vintage-style pieces.

Creative Holiday Party Favors

We love giving little handmade tokens to guests at parties, but can often underestimate the cost or time involved. Here are some cute ideas for take-aways for your guests that have a handmade appeal, won't break the bank, and won't take a week to do!

House Tour: Maggie's Delightful Digs

maggie 01.jpg

Name: Maggie S.
Location: Seattle, Washington
Size: 550 square feet (more or less)
Years lived in: six

Maggie S., otherwise known as Mizrobot on Flickr, is a faithful Apartment Therapy reader and a proud graduate of the Apartment Therapy Cure, and her 550 square foot home shows it! She's got a beautiful collection of interesting vignettes, a sophisticated and playful choice of colors, and a discriminating eye for the things she displays in her home. She's letting us take a peek into her home, but with the notice that this is to be considered the "before"--she has just recently moved in with her boyfriend and is working on incorporating her life with his. While she dives head first into making her (very beautiful) style work with his, we can see just how she expresses herself in her home when the canvas is all hers. Stay tuned for an "after" house tour once Maggie gets settled into her new place!

Roundup: Organic Ornaments

The holidays are upon us, and for those who enjoy decorating but don't like to stick to a traditional theme, we'd like to share some great organic ornament options. Inspired by nature (or straight from the source) these ornaments are pretty little bits of earthy fun!

Inspiration: Cable Drawings

11.23.09 cable 3.jpgWe just recently moved in to a victorian that is chock full of beautiful ornate details, but extremely deficient in the offering of outlets. Faced with strings of extension cords, we found this to be an inspired way to address long cables in the home...

Etsy Find: Slip-On Coasters

Wine charms are well and good, and do the job at deciphering between people's glasses, but we've never been huge fans. If you're working with stemmed wine glasses, allow us to introduce this option that we just recently discovered: slip-on coasters!

How To...Crochet a Holiday Garland
SFGirlByBay

11.18.09 garland 1.jpgWe'll admit it...holiday decor generally stirs up the wrong emotions in us. Instead of cheer, nostalgia and good tidings, we often get anxious and frustrated with all of the over-the-top commercial glitz. So when we find something as sweet and cheerful as this, we get very excited...

A Creative Take on "Social Housing"

11.17.09 architecture 2.jpgMulti-family housing is often a challenge to design in an innovative and aesthetically pleasing way. We are always intrigued by architects that can create large scale "social housing" projects in creative ways...

Dahlia Rug

11.16.09 rug 3.jpgDanish modern is a term that is almost always goes hand in hand with mid-century design. In a series of furniture titled "New Danish Modern," however, designers are pushing design from Denmark in a very modern direction. Check out these beautiful rugs, which are part of this line...

Flickr Find: Mizrobot's Vintage Bottles

11.13.09 bottles 1.jpgBrowsing our favorite Flickr images we came across Mizrobot's collection of vintage bottles and had to share. We love the colors and shapes of her well-appointed selection, and they're set off so nicely on the floral fabric...

Roundup: Feeling Punchy

With the nearing of the holidays, we often find ourselves in the midst of hosting dinners and parties more than any other time of the year. There is something special about a punch bowl at an event that makes us feel a little extra fancy! Keeping a large punch bowl on hand can help to add an easy bit of fun formality to a gathering. Here are some of our favorites that we would also love to use in other ways throughout the year!
