Location: Pawtucket, Rhode Island

The first thing we noticed about Asya’s light-filled loft was how similar her home feels to the delicate ceramics she creates under the name gleena. Both the space and her handcrafted porcelain dishes have a minimal quality, but her playful color palette and use of graphics give both the loft and the tableware a warm approachability.

Melinda and David invited me into their home for a tryout House Call post. After receiving such a great response, it seemed silly not to take more photographs for a full house tour. Enjoy!

When Melinda moved into her two bedroom Glen Park apartment five years ago, the cream walls and gold fixtures were definite eyesores. Luckily, her amenable landlord gave her free reign to remodel, so the painting, fixture replacing and personalizing began immediately. Now with a new housemate, her fiance David, the home is a loving and colorful collaboration by all members of the household.

Mirrors, with all their space-expanding super powers and light-reflecting glory, can be a tough crowd to get right. Too spread out and they may look haphazard, too many and a room risks resembling a fun-house, too expansive and you may suffer headache inducing eighties flashbacks. Layering mirrors, however, well that's a whole different glam story.

I snapped the picture above in Thomas O'Brien's Soho shop last week. While O'Brien is amazingly talented and prolific, it is hard to find his style all in once location. His designs spread out among vendors as varied as Target, Waterworks, Safavieh and Reed & Barton, but in his Soho shop, you can see the whole vision in one fell swoop. I recommend a visit.

This is embarrassing to admit, but pretty much every time I have a party, I feel totally relaxed until the hour before the guests show up. Once the party gets going I'm fine again, but at that one-hour mark, I inevitably get really stressed out, snap at my husband, regret snapping at my husband, apologize, and spend the remaining lead-up to the party wondering if people will notice that I didn't clean the baseboards.

I have chosen and love the Agave Blue wall color I chose for my living room. When you walk into my apartment, the layout allows for an immediate view of the living room, dining room and the bedroom. I was contemplating a nice orange, warm gold or pear green. I don't get a lot of natural light, but I am not opposed to a dark color just not sure what to do. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

But I have these rather "nasty wood-look" plastic laminate cabinets, which I would like to paint white, until such time as I can afford to more thoroughly fix up my kitchen. If I sand the surface, will paint adhere properly, so that I can get a nice solid, wipeable surface? What products should I use, how many coats, etc? I'd especially like to hear from folks who have done this very thing, learn how their project turned out.
