We've been doing some extreme curtain hunting lately. We've been looking for something that doesn't require frequent laundering, care, spot cleaning or even consideration once we hang it. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Click through the jump to see our suggestion on maintenance free curtains.
We never thought that home decor would have anything to do with skydiving, but we have been proven wrong. We have pets that would normally necessitate regular laundering and care to rid them of dog hair or drool (barking at squirrels through windows can get quite slobber-ific around our house).
Because of this we have been looking for our dream fabric. Something that is rather water resistant to help eliminate stains before they start, something that is easily cleaned if it has to be, it has to hang well and still be light and airy.
Thus enters parachute fabric curtains. We caught a brief blurb on them while watching HGTV's Extreme Homes. One of the featured houses had used them to delineate the spaces in their open loft. They had hung them on sliding hospital track to keep the light weight material freely moving.
So we had to check it out for ourselves. We did some searching and found several locations selling it online.
Ebay is a good place to start as you can find it in lengths from 1 yard all the way up to a full bolt. This length is going for 20 bucks currently, plus 10 in shipping (although sadly bidding ends in 30 minutes!).
Our first choice is from ahh.biz where they carry almost every color under the rainbow. You can also contact them for a sample of the material before purchasing. It can be purchased for roughly $11/yrd. It does however have to be bought on the roll as it will wrinkle in shipping.
There were many different places that manufacture the material for government sources that are more than willing to work with an outside customer, so don't be afraid to pick up the phone and ask!
Just hang and forget it. Parachute fabric could be your new best friend!
