Headboards always seem to be ridiculously over priced for what is essentially a few pieces of wood. These homeowners took matters into their own hands and replicated a favorite design from West Elm that with shipping would have cost them $260 — and they did it all for $60!
Over at Decor and the Dog they drew up plans and made a trip to the hardware store. After a few simple cuts and the purchase of a jig and some paint they were ready to get to work.
The end result is pretty darn close to the original and although this type of DIY work might not be for everyone, this makes a more elaborate structure appear rather simple to recreate. Check out all the details over at Decor and the Dog, they've even been kind enough to provide measurements and cut lists for queen and king size beds!

Great headboard! We DIYed a version of a Pottery Barn bed, or else I'd try this.
Does anyone have a simple design for a platform for a king sized bed? I have my headboard but I need to lift my mattress off the floor.
Great job! We have a very similar headboard. We hired a contractor to do the headboard, plus a simple yet modern base. He only charged us $200, and it's GORGEOUS.
nice work!
@emkiser, have you checked ana-white.com?
I'm impressed!
@emkiser, I agree with Ainhoa Vega -- I'm certain I saw a design on ana-white.com with chunky legs that you could use or modify.
Love it! These are exactly the colors I want in my bedroom too.
Sweet! Between this how-to on the West Elm pattern, and the how-to on the West Elm daybed over at ana-white.com, I am all set to NOT spend $500 on my guest room/office bed.
