I've had birds on the brain lately. I can't help it - the weather gets cold and suddenly I worry that every bird in America is starving in the frost and snow. We talked about how to feed them on the cheap, but today I'd like to talk about making this cool circular feeder. Can you guess what toy would make this an easy DIY?
This feeder is made from a Slinky! You can purchase it for right around the $20 mark from Veseys, but we're betting that there might be some DIY potential in this project.
This project could easily be recreated with a wire hanger and a Slinky. As long as each end of the slinky is secure it'll hold peanuts or large feed. Perfect for big birds that like to do some digging. You could even take this one step further and use a paint like Plasti-Dip to rubberize the whole thing and make sure it's weather proof!

Ercol Bar Stool
The wire I buy from the hardware store is wound up and sort of like a slinky if you remove it all at once from the container. Maybe that is another option.
If you mix your own suet, you could alternate between suet, nuts and berries.
this would also be great for nesting. Fill the slinky with bits of yarn, string, dryer lint pieces. When they build nests, they love to have soft and fuzzy things to line their nest with.
