Daybeds are one of those love/hate items, but in certain spaces, they're often the only thing that will do. The problem is, they aren't exactly budget friendly and more often than not are kind of, well... blah. Check out this inexpensive way to make your own while adding in a little spunk while you're at it!
Larry Bilotti of Trout House Diaries and formerly the Executive Editor of Country Living Magazine, ran across these identical headboards at a garage sale for the small price of $10. Loving the look, he took them home and created his very own daybed with them.
We love the idea of using vintage or retro pieces that are often found at auctions, garage sales and on Craigslist in abundance. Even if you don't come across identical pieces at the same time, if you choose a piece that you see often, you're sure to come across a second one soon.
By building your own bed you have the ability to pump up the color as much or as little as you want! Like things cool and neutral? Try a lacquer white. Looking for a unique piece that screams personality when a guest enters the room? Try taking your finds bright turquoise or use a little pin striping tape (found at an automotive supply store) to give them a little added texture or design.
