When you see large art installations on the wall, they might look cool, but it's easy to start adding up the cost of them. With each piece of art usually ranging between $10 and $15, things get pricey pretty quick — but not in this case. Would you believe the entire wall of art only cost $13.99?
Each print on the wall above came from this calendar. Each page showcases a different Barbie. The calendar itself costs $13, which makes it roughly $1 a print. Not too shabby!
Sure the cost of the frames should be included, but these were used in another area of the home beforehand, so they weren't an additional cost. They usually retail for $10 at most craft stores and if you wait for the half off sales, you can find them for $5. It serves as a great reminder to not only stock up on frames, but keep a lookout for clearance calendars as we near the end of the year or new fun ones for next season that might work well as wall art.
You can see this wall in Elijah and Tuli's Second and Third Story Bedroom tour, it's a great change from the wall art that used to be there.

I don't see that wall in the tour. Am I missing it?
Never mind. It is a nice change!
I always had calendar art in my room growing up!
Michaels has some great 50% and 40% off deals on frames right now. I ordered a bunch of prints for my daughters nursery the other day and was able to find 8x10 frames that I hope will work for $2.50 a piece ($10 for a pack of 4).
Hey! I have that same calendar and bought a few frames to put them in my own sewing room!
"Sure the cost of the frames should be included, but these were used in another area of the home beforehand, so they weren't an additional cost."
IF you use a calendar you have already, the cost would be $0.00!
IF you inherit Picassos (framed) you would have fantastic art at cost zero! WOW!
I really don't see the point in this kind of posts, really. I have problems in seeing the art in the wall in the picture, too...
i was thinking those were the $1 dollar store certificate frames and the calendar used up the remaining $1.99.
I LOVE this - hope you don't mind I am going to copy this for my bedroom!!!
Maybe the title should be.. "I Made A Gallery Wall Art Display For Only $13" since you're not actually giving someone tips on how to make one themselves for the same amount. According to the article, it would actually cost $73.00.
It's adorable but it's kind of ridiculous that the cost of the frames isn't included here. Most people don't have the perfect size frames lying around (and the advice to buy random frames on sale and find art to fit them is kind of ridiculous, imo). For most people, that would ultimately be a waste of money. I would rather this have focused on "What a great idea! Frame a vintage calendar!"
If you're the crafty sort, and you're using cheap art so you don't have to worry about acidity or protecting the artwork, you can make your own frames for pretty cheap.
Even people with two left thumbs can work with balsa wood. If you buy the strips in bulk, they get cheaper too. First art store I looked at online sold a pack of enough balsa wood to make 11 frames for $13.37
So you could recreate this wall's look for around $28 with a wood grain look, or around $35 if you bought paint to color the frames.
C'mon. You can't just gloss over the cost of the frames. A better (an less misleading) title ot this post would be, "I made a gallery wall from an old calendar." There was no need bait & switch to attract readers.
Oh yeah like they really had 12 frames of the same exact size just laying around the house. Oh but I do love Barbie.
I've been doing this forever. You can do this with old picture books too. Not a new idea, my friends.
