We love grapefruit this time of year. Its fresh taste and scent is just the sunshine needed on gray winter days. That same scent is also appealing for other uses, like housecleaning or even scrubbing the bath tub. Here's one more use to add to its mighty repertoire:
Use the rind as a planter! This video from Wonder How To shows you the basics. Also see a similar project (pictured up top) at Family Chic.
Of course, this will only work as a temporary planter when used indoors. However, when we're on the other side of winter, closer to planting season, you can keep on doing this and plant the entire thing right in the ground when the earth thaws. The grapefruit rind makes a perfect biodegradable container for plant starters!

Oh my gosh that is just genius, will have to try it out after Christmas!
While this is pretty, citrus is acidic and can harm plants roots. It makes sense if you're gifting transplants but I wouldn't leave a plant in a rind for too long.
