Remember a few weeks ago when we talked about the conflict between buying and diy-ing? Well, I'm glad this crafter could overcome the need to spend almost $300 on an advent calendar and instead make one for herself for just $3! That's less than lunch!

Over at Olivia Renn there's some crafty-goodness happening. Using the Pottery Barn twig advent calendar as inspiration, she decided she could make her own and save her family some money that could be better spent on other things.

Using plastic cups (which look just like pails once painted), paint and a little twine she completed her look in combination with some fallen apple tree branches from her backyard. You can pick up eco-friendly plastic cups (or search out small pails instead) and even low-voc spray paint if you're looking to lessen your footprint for the project.

Because a few of the items needed were already on hand, this project came in with only a few small dollars on the price tag. Check out the full details on making this project for your home over at Olivia Renn.
