With all our dizzying digitization and gadget madness these days, it's comforting to return to our roots with the simple, wooden toy. Why not take that a step further and make the toys yourself?

We are simply in awe of this Waldorf-esque dollhouse puzzle from Shape of a Spoon. They've even been so kind as to provide a full tutorial. We've almost never seen one toy that works so many developmental skills at once. Granted, it will test your skills to make it, but we know that woodworkers live amongst us here. If you happen to find yourself without a bandsaw, you can purchase Glueckskaefer's version here.

This is beautiful and ingenious, but I would definitely purchase it rather than attempt to make it. Unless you're a professional woodworker, if you value your time (and your sanity) at all, it would be well worth the fifty bucks. (And, it's available in a natural wood version as well as the colored version shown on the link.)
I think this would be a WONDERFUL project, especially for those of us that live in small apartments and don't have space for larger projects. Thank you... I love this so much!
Absolutely adorable! Thank you!
We have one from Glucksafer of Germany. Loved rich color and great fun for our neutral, larger dollhouse. http://www.magiccabin.com/Fairy%2DHouse%2DToy_p2245_S2004_D1501_C4305.html
Professional woodworker? Nah. It's called a coping saw, and is rather inexpensive and completely non-scary. Plus, the style of the toy is such that any imperfections matter not at all. No risk to sanity.
