We've recently mentioned our love for the abacus (and numbers in general), and with oversized versions popping up at our favorite retailers, our lust for them is growing out of control. The price tag has been the only thing holding us back as they run between $150-$250 — but not any more, we'll just make our own!

Stephanie Lynn over at Under the Table and Dreaming had the same problem we did with paying such a high price tag, so she took matters into her own hands and created a less expensive (but still great looking) version instead.

It's still giant in size and you get to play with a few power tools, so make sure you check out the full tutorial for all the details and a shopping list before you head off to the hardware store. Although we love the look of Stephanie Lynn's creation, we think the world is your oyster when it comes to color. You could make one that's all green, change it up and go with bright circus colors and tone things down with pastels.

Thanks Stephanie Lynn!
