We agree that once you've bought yourself an iPad, forking over a few hundred extra dollars for sleeves, stands, and other iPad accessories is just ridiculous. We've featured a few different cheap iPad stand alternatives, but this one looks really nice.
What's even more impressive is that this DIY iPad stand was made by a kid! This 10-year old boy named Brett used a piece of wood, a hinge, and a couple of knobs to make his own iPad stand. All of the supplies were bought from Home Depot. The total cost for this build is $12.40.
We have to say that we kind of like this idea of putting together our own iPad stand. Sure, it's more expensive than a few others we've seen, but it's not that expensive. Anyone with a few supplies at home could probably make this one for free.
It's a fact that since the iPad is a new device, people will find all sorts of hacks to make stands for it. The benefit of this stand is that the iPad is firmly resting in its place thanks to the knobs. It's also got a nice piece of wood to rest upon, which makes it a bit safer for the device. The stands that hold the iPad will put more pressure on the bottom of the device.

Very innovative. How about not having to do use anything extra than the box it came in to "build" a stand. This is one option: Just rip out the plastic base of the box in which the iPad came in (there is a small tape in the middle holding it down). Flip it over and you have a stand to watch movies, etc. on your desk. Pictures and description here: http://gurnam.tumblr.com/post/508562079/ipad-stand-in-a-pinch-since-apple-is-cutting
