I've always loved packages with big fluffy bows, but I've personally had a problem buying them and attaching them to presents in the past. Knowing most of them will just end up in the trash a few moments after unwrapping a gift, they always seemed unnecessary. So if they're going to end up in the trash, why not make them from it in the first place? Guilt free and pretty—a perfect combo!
Over at Zakka Life, inspiration struck as a package of candy was emptied. The inside was so shiny and pretty that it would be a shame not to make it into something, right? The package was cut into strips and turned inside out to reveal the pretty parts.
Next the sections were placed on top of each other to create a bow, and the results speak for themselves. What better way to dress a package or gift during the holidays than to do so by giving life to an item that otherwise would be headed for the garbage can?

I keep a box with my Christmas stuff of bows that have been given to me on presents.. I use them when I wrap gifts of my own.
Those are pretty. I'm a sucker for silvery stuff. I save silk bows from years past and especially from gifts I've recieved; we use actual gifts for wrapping; scarves, dish towels. Also we've saved honey and jam jars, they're small and perfect for small gifts like candy or nuts. Really less expensive and looks handmade that way. Thanks for the eco friendly idea / conversation.
@Callie - I wonder that also. People always remark on how beautiful our gift packages are and our homeade gifts, I tell them and hope they try the same for me. I usually ask my family to donate to an organization or buy me museum tickets but inevitably there's still tons of wrapping paper and waste.....our friends are much better about it though than family, for some reason.....
