One sure way to give your kid the royal treatment on their birthday is to present them with a birthday crown. They can wear it year after year or on any day they need to feel a little special. We've rounded up five great tutorials to help you make your own as well as five of our favorites for sale on Etsy at the moment.

Make it!
Rarely can an evening's work be so rewarding. The kids I've made them for wear them for play all the time. It's great to see them in use YEARS after they were given.
My crown pattern is more like the simple crown in Crockett Johnson's Harold's Fairy Tale:

It also sizes from infant to adult (you know you'll want to wear it too).
It's a beautiful idea!!! I will make it for my niece!!!
Birthday crowns are a wonderful family tradition. My (much) littler brother and sister make them for each other on their birthdays, and distribute them to the rest of the family as well--every year, I get my own in the mail, thousands of miles away. Very touching.
i love, love, love handmade crowns. what a perfect touch for every child's birthday

loved this! thank you for pulling together all the different tutorials out there. if i were a better sewer who didn't need to reacquaint myself with my machine every time i use it, this would have gone MUCH faster. regardless, my daughter has a crown for her birthday and i'm happy.
