My husband and I have been looking for an unobtrusive desk to create a dedicated workspace for him in our small sitting room. Multi-tasking rooms such as ours call for something that makes smart use of limited space. After the jump, find 10 space-saving options in a range of prices.
Depending on your style, room, and budget, there are many ways you can make an added-in workspace work. For a minimal and modern look, consider something clear and streamlined, such as this acrylic console (Image 2). If you can go wider or taller than you can deep, consider a wall-mounted shelf desk (Images 1, 6, and 10). To truly multitask, consider a piece than can double as a side or entry table or nightstand.

I like the fact that not all of these solutions relay on wallspace. I'm currently working out the bugs on a small desk in my living room, so that I can work in the evenings and still interact with my kids when they're watching TV or playing videogames. Any "against the wall" solution means I have my back to them, which sort of defeats the purpose. Thanks for throwing out some ideas I can try!
the ikea muddus table makes a great desk and is a very affordable.
no 1 is beautiful to look at.
I have a home office so it does not apply to me , but for a student or just someone with a laptop it might work.
No 1 is beautiful, but who could work at a desk like that? It's so tiny and precarious looking. And it looks like your knees would hit the wall. How do you get comfortable enough to actually relax and work at a desk like that?
There are so many posts on AT about small space offices, when I feel like the increasingly common reality is more like No 3, a portable "desk" you can pull up to the sofa and use while kicking back. It seems funny to me to dedicate a space to a specific technological task while the technology itself is becoming more and more portable.
I actually just picked up a nice small space desk from Target for $100 bucks. Good solid piece with two small shelves.
I downsized recently from a house with a dedicated office to an apartment with no extra rooms so I needed to store my massive computer desk and find something compact for my desktop. It works perfectly and echoes the chunky styling of the West Elm piece.
Have been considering one of these very clever looking desks..
Are there no cute solutions for people with desktops? All I see are cute desks for laptops and those Macs that are monitor/tower combos.
I suppose I am left in the ugly dark ages with my homebuilt cheap-o tower.
@Neutopian Great link , love the desk.... All great options!

I have the Peekaboo console from CB2 and use it as a makeup table -- multiple uses! You can use it everywhere.
I am looking for a folding table/desk to pull out when I am working on a project that will require days, but then I can fold it and store it for the next project. If I leave it out, it becomes a flat surface filled with papers and clutter. I'd like it to be attractive but simple. Perhaps AT could do a list of such desks/tables at some point?!
My husband and I moved into a little 1br duplex and the only space left for my home office+iMac was one tiny corner in the all-purpose living room. While I normally wouldn't touch walmart with a 10 foot pole, our budget was tight and after a lot of searching, this corner desk was cheap, works like a charm with its large multi-function fold out drawer and doesn't look half bad.
