Souvenirs are often craptacular. Australian souvenirs can be particularly embarrassing- clippy koala or ornamental boomerang anyone? We were very excited when we found the work of Make Me Iconic at our local bookshop; Melbourne themed souvenirs/homewares of places and things that locals find iconic.
From the Nylex Clock to Richmond's Audrey [of Skipping Girl Vinegar], Make Me Iconic have got it. Did you enjoy the confusion that are hook-turns while driving in Melbourne's CBD? No doubt you'd love a tea towel with the signage on it! Of course these aren't just souvenirs, they are attractive homewares in their own right. The good husband was fortunate enough to receive a limited edition print of the Nylex Clock as a birthday present over the weekend and it's taken pride of place on our living room wall.

You would think that the clock on the silo would say 11 degrees!
I love these guys. My hubby taught me to drive many, many years ago so I got him the hook turn poster as a pressie - and a reminder of all that stress that he went through back then!
As an aside, I remember crying the first time I was driving on my own and had to do a hook turn...
Oh those hook turns. I would go out of my way to avoid them in the city. Now living in Canberra, I think of roundabouts as the hook turns of the ACT. Have to get this print.
I've never had a problem with hook turns.... but my friend will do a full circle to avoid having to do them, and even allows time in her trips to do so!!
Remued I'm confused.... why would a clock say '11 degrees'?
Also... surely this is another reason why an Australian division of AT would be great!!
I love hook turns... I think of it as cars having to behave like bikes. (You know how a bike can't turn right from the right hand turning lane etc etc)
Thanks for this post. I love the Nylex sign. I think the comment about the 11 degrees is about how cold it is in Melbourne at the moment... and the fact that the Nylex sign usually flicks between the time and the temperature does it not? Or is it a separate sign? I can't remember.
I had no idea what a hook turn was, so I looked it up and OMG! Unless that's a protected turn, no thank you.
I'm a big fan of the teapot turns on Pennsylvania highways that make you swing around to the right to go straight across the highway (like a teapot handle) instead of making a left turn.
If that Nylex clock had an actual clock in it I'd buy it straight away.
The rest of them seem a bit too Melbourne for a non Melbournite like me though.
