For as long as I can remember, my father has gotten up before the sun to read his paper and watch the birds out the front kitchen window. In a high-stress world, it's amazing how much joy simple bird watching can truly bring to his day. These birdseed ornaments are simple to make, and may just end up in his stocking this year!
Usually bird feeders are peanut-butter based, but that can get so sticky. But over at Saltwater Kids they've used a mixture of corn syrup and gelatin to mold birdseed into cookie cutters. A straw keeps things dry and everything stays low key, low fuss and pretty low in price! Plus we love the look of the festive shapes hanging from trees.
