Here's another good idea for entertaining the little ones on Thanksgiving. Instead of just giving them regular old paper and crayons, wrap up boxes with white paper and let them color the "presents."
Victoria of City Cradle did this as an activity with her kids and suggests gently peeling the paper off and letting the kids take it home to use as actual wrapping paper for the holidays. Maybe have some little ribbons so that you can roll up the paper and tie it like a scroll for easier transport home.
Thanks for the idea Victoria!

Shaw's Original Fir...
What presents? Who wraps presents on Thanksgiving?
You should've saved this post for a bit closer to Christmas.
I actually think this is a wonderful idea, but I agree with burnttoast that this is something that could be done on a cold Saturday afternoon, when you have the ACTUAL presents. It just seems like extra work to wrap boxes and then gently unwrap them only to have to to it again...Or you coud just unroll some butcher paper on the floor and have them color on that, and roll it back up when done...that way you don't have to worry that the pieces you pre-cut won't fit on any presents you buy, and it can be used like actual wrapping paper :)
I still LOVE the idea...don't get me wrong!! Love it and plan on doing it in a few weeks :)
Lovely idea! I did this for a baby shower gift with my 1 year old! So unique and special!
Here are some pics that show off my one year olds craftiness: http://heypeanut.blogspot.com/2010/07/thats-wrap.html
I save all my daughter's finger-painting masterpieces and use them to wrap gifts all the time. The thick glossy paper (specifically for finger paint) is perfect for it!
We wrap our coffee table in freezer paper (shiny side down) and let the kids doodle on it through the week (this is a regular thing) and then I roll that up and save it for gift wrap. I agree, better to wrap actual gifts, but having the kids work on the paper is a great idea.
