When I saw this DIY project, I squealed. Literally. Out loud. I mean, it's the infamous Death Star with pretty flowers in it. Could there be anything cooler...or geekier? With a simple mold and some cement, it's the ultimate in sci-fi tinged decor.
Here's Ben over at HomeMade Modern made it:
He bought a Death Star Silicone Tray and cut a hole in the top where the opening would eventually be. Then he inserted a small water balloon blown up in the center. Don't let it pop!
After he sealed the mold with Duct Tape, he used some Quikcrete Countertop Cement to fill the mold and let it set.
Check out this cool animated gif of the process:
The full instructions are available on his blog, as well as some alternative ideas for using the mold for different purposes. I particularly like this photo hanger he created with office clips:
Keep in mind: the hole is going to be very small, so don't expect to put more than one or two average sized flowers or a smattering of small buds in the vase. I can see three of four set out with small daisies at parties, weddings, or just as a fun decorative touch on a desk.
