This idea was created to provide mosquito relief in Sweden, but I think it's a great DIY holiday gift as well. It's Grandma Chic at its best! Here are a few ideas for making your own:
There's something about the lace that feels a little wintery - a little snowy, a little light. Looking for ways to make them special? Try this:
• Dye your lace to better fit your surroundings.
• Put colored paper behind the frame.
• Run a string of lights around the inside to make it glow.
• Use window frames from Craigslist for the frame instead of a DIY wood one.
• Hang them together as a room divider instead of on the wall or in the window.
Do you like the look? I think it's crafty cute for summertime windows, but for winter it's easy wall decor or a great gift idea.

White Enamel Four-P...
This makes me want to take a stencil and some spray paint to our existing window screens!
SO COOL!
I have strangely shaped windows and it's hard to find screens for them for the summer, this could be a good solution, if I diy the frames. Where does one find this kind of lace?
Looks like they're made from vintage lace curtains. You can find them abundantly at fleamarkets at least in Finland and Sweden, probably everywhere else too...
If you're hoping to keep mosquitoes out with this you have to make sure the lace is dense enough and has no mosquito-sized holes.
re: M.a.i.'s comment on keeping out the mosquitos - that was the first thing i thought of, but probably you could put a mesh screen on first and then the lace over it for the decorative effect.
Very chic and fun! Lornaloo, you could also find inexpensive panel curtains at Walmart, Target, etc on clearance. They will get dingy over time, so I wouldn't spend a lot on them.
My gramma used to put cheese cloth over her screens (or more like she had Grampa do it!), They lived in the UP of MI-a climate similar to the south regions of Finland, where they were from. It was to keep the no-see-ums out at night. This looks much prettier!
Lovely!
