Quick, name the first three playground structures that pop into your head--a slide, swings, and a see-saw, right? Well, slides and swings can still be found everywhere but see-saws are teetering on the edge of extinction. Safety issues and liability concerns have made them pretty rare. But for those of us who grew up with see-saws it is hard to imagine a childhood without them. If you want one these days you'll have to build it yourself. Luckily, that prospect just got a bit easier.
Ana White's Backyard See-Saw is perfect on many levels. It's made from dimensional lumber, it's easy to cut and assemble and the final product brings on the fun. While her plans, as always, are clear and concise, it is a bit of commentary that gets to the heart of the see-saw safety debate: 'I personally feel like the most dangerous thing my child does for her health is sit inside and watch tv.' And that settles that in our book.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Is there anything Ana White can't build? She needs her own TV show!
She's my hero.
So cute! My dad built us a backyard see-saw by putting a plank on a large rock sticking out of the ground. We loved it!
Ana is AMAZING! This project is going on my "honeydew" list. I am sure my husband and I will enjoy it as much, if not more than the kids
So cute and nicely designed.
Oh yeah, this is getting made.
We have a seesaw that I bought at senior citizens craft fair before Christmas and hid in the garage until my older son's spring birthday party. I always get as his birthday gift something he can play with outside. It's been a big hit. I especially love that it's something that my 5 year old can do with his younger brother who is 15 months. I hold the toddler on the seesaw and they don't go very high but I love watching them have fun on it together.
The posts holding in the handle bars in place are carved in the shape of hobby horses which makes it look even cooler.
