Make an LED Flashlight Out of an Old Zippo Lighter

We are not going to lie, Zippo lighters are cool. Really cool. Please understand that we are not advocating smoking when we gush about Zippo lighters (lighters are also great for camping). We are fans of the clean design and fantastic click sound they the iconic lighter makes when opened, and it is for this reason that we are so excited about this DIY project we found on Instructables.

After seeing the flashlights that Zippo had made a few years ago, Instructables user Richard was inspired to make his own and improve on the idea by using LEDs.

To make this project, in addition to the Zippo lighter, you will need two super bright white LEDs, a mini switch. 2 button cell batteries, shrink tube, superglue. electrical tape, and small gauge wire (bonus points if you obtain this from an old cat5 cable). As you can guess like any project involving LEDs several tools are required, these include soldering Iron and solder, rotary cutting tool, pliers, and scissors.

We have always loved Zippo lighters and this project gives us non-smokers a reason to carry one around. We love the brightness of the LED lights and think this is a great device to carry around in your pocket or purse. With the holidays just around the corner, we also think they might make great gifts.

Check out the post on Instructables, for the complete instructions.
