I love the look of pendants made from thin strips of veneer. They're oh so pretty but they usually come with a pretty hefty price tag. In this project you can make your own for a fraction of what a designer shade costs and you'll get a little diy-pride to go with it!
We stopped in over at Poppytalk, where we saw Holly's latest DIY adventure.
With the help of some embroidery rings, thin strips of veneer are glued together using bulldog clips to help out. Both pieces are then gently pushed towards each other and just like that a baby pendant shade is born. And you thought they came from the stork. Surprise!
Make sure you hop over to Poppytalk for all the details on how to make your own. The process isn't tricky, but checking out the play by play will go a long way if you're interested in gluing one up yourself!

White Enamel Four-P...
I'm sorry to be a downer but, this is the kind of tacky obviously DIY'ed stuff that I truly feel is a waste of resources. Wood veneers are useful products and can be great when used with class. This project will probably end up in a land fill in a few years. sigh...
I'm sorry to be a downer, but the post prior to mine is unbelievably arrogant and patronising. Who appointed you the master (or mistress) of taste snarky dog?
I love the project and if you are looking for perfection, then go buy it. Isn't the whole idea of DIY about experimentation and creating something with your own 2 hands that you will love? As evidenced by your history of comments SleepyDog, you have issues with everyone else's work so clearly you just like to complain. I would love to see you rather than be snarky, give feedback on the piece about how it could have been done better esp. since you mention you are a woodworker. Share your knowledge rather than beat people down....
I like it too, I don't think it looks tacky, but I know some projects can. It can really give a room that mid century feel. It can complement some period pieces of furniture well.
No written instructions but still a very informative and DIY-able walkthrough of Tom Rossau making an ST 903 lamp.

I'm not the biggest fan of the final appearance of the project, but neat idea and I will give Holly credit for lining up the woodgrain.
I wonder what the outcome would have been if she glued the veneer around the hoops before slicing and then carefully made the slits after the glue had dried.
This reminds me of Halloween jack o lanterns I use to make with orange construction paper in grade school...just needs a face. :)
I really like these and plan to make two to go over my long dining table. Thanks!
