Concrete is a great diy material. It might seem scary to some, but it's rather inexpensive and easy to get the hang of. This fun tutorial shows you how to make a concrete bench that's modern, sleek, and can be customized 6 ways to Sunday (pssst, that's a lot of ways)!
We stopped in at Instructables where user madmanmoe64 has been building modular outdoor furniture. Molds were lined with leaves (and other assorted items that you can read about in the full tutorial) and then filled to the tippy-top with readied concrete.
When everything was completed and dry, the molds were removed and each piece now locks together for a modern stacking style seating arrangement. If you're looking for something a little easier you could modify the style of mold to make the process go a little quicker, but either way you're sure to be the only neighbor on the block with these bad boys while everyone else sports their uniform Target chairs. Score! Want to see the full process?

I think this looks really awesome, but at the end of the day, you and your guests are sitting on bare concrete. If I'm going to spend this amount of time on making my own outdoor furniture, I'm gonna build something I can at least read a book in for awhile.
Ow! I hope you have a tutorial for custom-making cushions to go with it...Looks great tho'.
I'm with those two. So, ok, now, after all that, ya got a bunch of hard squares that weigh as much as a truckload of rocks.
Definitely not for 'lounging' but would make great extra seating for an impromptu cocktail party and various uses in bewteen. Plus, the kid in me likes the lego building block aspect of this simple diy project:) Lots of possibilites for imbedded materials too. What fun!
Constructive criticism quite often sparks new ideas. Not seeing anything constructive about the criticism here. Thanks for the link & thanks madmanmoe64 for the tutorial.
