Party blowers are a dime a dozen, but they're not usually remembered as the cutest part of the party. But making your own gives you the freedom to choose the paper's color or pattern to coordinate with your party atmosphere.

This simple craft project was a Valentine's-themed guest post by Deb Averett (Dose of Happy) on Design Mom and they're a wonderful idea for a non-candy kid's Valentine. But bookmark the idea for any party or festive occasion you have coming up or just as a fun "crafternoon" project with your kid.

I'm having a difficult time imagining putting the time and effort (and expense) to something so profoundly silly. Party blowers come in every color of the rainbow at any party store for a dollar a 10-pack. Who would do this and if they have so much time, can they come over and do some chores for me?
@ALLIE_P: I probably would, as I'm considering a New Year's Eve wedding. I'm not fond of generic party store swag... SO psyched that these allow personalization. Can we say glow in the dark straws? It seems like the kind of thing you can do while watching tv. Also, no thanks, I have chores of my own to do... come to think of it, I might be able to do these in between laundry.
Re: Allie_P's comment...I am interested in doing this project, and I don't have much time. I'd like to minimize my purchase of mass-market, made-overseas junk that comes from the party supply store. I recently went to a birthday party that had a truly mind-boggling amount of dollar-store/party-store junk. I shudder to think of the landfills we are clogging. Not that DYI blowers aren't full of plastic, but maybe I can control the ingredients, like making a cake instead of buying one at the grocery store.
So the multicolored plastic bendy straws aren't mass-produced, made-overseas plastic junk?
Make sure to check back in once you've completed your all-natural made-in-the USA organic non-plastic and biodegradable bendy straw quest. Make sure to include the reactions from your no doubt impressed and grateful guests when you let them know that you hand taped together every single blower.
@ALLIE_P: Hit me up with your email, I'll be sure to send you a pic of the party blowers with my beautiful mug on them. Not to mention the less costly ones that will have simple designs in my wedding colors. I can assure you they will be off the heezy.
