Generally speaking, I don't like the look of play rugs. I find that the color combinations clash with the rest of the room, so thus far I've yet to commit to one. As with all things in life, if you can't find something to suit your needs, make it yourself.

That is exactly what Minna of Time of the Aquarius blog did. Rather than bellyache about it, she made a beautiful felt play rug that looks great just as a floor covering. According to her blog, she used felt wool and then drew an urbanscape. Minna doesn't specify what she used to draw in the roads and landmarks but I'm thinking a good fabric pen might work. This felt carpet was used in a design fairs flooring and they were trowing these a way, so I took a piece and made this recycle play rug.
I meant use for dark materials...
