We've been seeing a trend of using old tech as a kind of sculptural art piece. So if it's going to sit there taking up space, why not make it do double duty, like this vintage radio does for one Instructables user...
Vintage cameras find new homes on bookshelves and broken TVs find themselves becoming bookshelves. So why can't a hollowed-out old-school radio become a safe?
Just like those book safes you see in stores, the benefit of a contraption like this is that thiefs might not know to peek inside a radio sitting on the shelf for valuables. For that reason, it's ok that it doesn't lock and just snaps shut. Although we don't see why you can't take this DIY project to the next step and add a lock.
