I was at a color consulting job last week and before I could pull out my color samples, my client whipped out her own fan deck. The rod that typically holds the deck together broke a while ago so she replaced it with a piece of shoelace. I marveled at how much easier it was to work with a fan deck in this loose design.
Of course, using a fan deck in its standard form is far from arduous. But the deck can feel annoyingly tight to me. With the shoelace solution, it was so much easier to rule out color groups by just swooshing them out of the way, while pulling others forward.
Thanks Ellen, for this "necessity is the mother of invention" solution!

I usually use a spring loaded circular clip, which makes it easy to add or subtract pages. You know, like a ring on a three-ring binder.
Brilliant! So simple and so helpful. I used some cording I had laying around and stuck one of my business cards on the front cover piece. Now it looks like it belongs to me instead of something I stole from a painter.
seriously???...
I am new to this amazing site. So far I haven't figured out how or where to post just a general question so I'm going to post it here while I get the lay of the land...
I am curious if anyone has seen a coffee table that can house a small computer tower, a keyboard and a small monitor. Ideally I'm looking for a table that can allow the computer parts to remain hidden and then, when you want to use it, pull a lever or something that triggers the monitor and keyboard to rise up and out. The closest I've seen is a coffee table that is actually a computer, but this doesn't interest me (not attractive, too expensive).
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
